Excellent read,,May be in future, we will see some AMD apu based console running on Android or Linux with or without steam. Nvidia opting for its own console is a very good and defensive decision to make them relevant in a long run. In distant future, I want to see an open console consist of open source os like android and a possible open source hardware architecture rather than ARM or x86 - this will do what exactly android did to the smart phone segment which was ruled by Symbian,Blackberry and Palm OS earlier.

^^ Ouya is not setting a good precedence as far as I can see.

 

Also with the advent of multiple consoles the problem of fragmentation of platforms occurs, since there is no consensus on what minimum hardware would be required to run the base software we shall see an advent of cheap consoles which will function but just barely. Also it would be tough for companies to certify a single title for multiple platforms.

 

And less said about nVidia trudging down its own path is better. They are arrogant and prefer to maintain proprietary standards for their own benefits and behave like victims when their hardware cannot run open standards equally well.
