How To Create Apps/Games!

No coding, but important to understand how apps work in terms of building blocks.

Pick up one of the easier engines like Gideros (my recommendation), Cocos2D (pretty tuf to setup outside of OSX).

The game engines give a pretty good tutorial on coding, architecture. They also are cross-platform (and thats where the future lies). It's the easiest way to start off without getting too much into basics. Once you have completed a couple of the tutorials, you'll be able to figure out how to leverage game engines to build good looking apps.

Or, try or TitaniumAppcelerator (JS based). It's also an easy method to get apps up and running pretty fast, though the easier the method the more limited your app will be (see their templates and you'll understand what I'm talking about).

Thanks man! What i was thinking is to create apps for the beginning and stuff. As i am well aware that designing an entire game is quite challenging for a *single* guy! As you need to design graphics, textures, then there is the layout of every level, AI for NPC's, UI,etc. So i would love to have a team for that and we can design module by module.

I was wondering that is it possible to use someone else's Game Engine professionally? I mean are there any freeware/open-source engines available? And is it possible to use available textures, modify them and use them (Totally different from what you downloaded)? However for the beginning i wish to create a swiss knife type of app, which can do a lot of stuff (Cant publicize the idea)...

And as of Xcode, OS X Lion can be installed on a normal pc too!

EDIT: Checked out Blender, Citrus and other engines... Seems sexy!

Kindly tell me all the info needed because i just passed 12th and entering B.Tech so you can see how much idea about this i'll have (Not much), this is an entire new world for me! Any help is appreciated, some things which might seems obvious for you might be new to me! When i was in 9th, i created my own website (Own TLD, Server, etc.) and did the SEO myself and earned around $3000 from it (Advertisements, links, etc.), it was a tech review blog and forum, by using wordpress and PHPBB. But paypal limitations prevented me from paying for hosting (HostGator) and renewal of domain, (No credit card) and i got busy with Xth class! And scammed for $700 buy a guy (Long story short, i sent him $700 to send me via western union as there were RBI and paypal dispute going on). It was PageRank 4 by Google and was in top 20k websites in Alexa.

And i am also looking at Unity 4, and btw for now, lets just talk about Android for the start. I dont want to do everything together and nothing with perfection.

If you have to stick to one, go for iOS. Programming is a breeze, Xcode is free and easy to setup and tons and tons of tutorials out there.

Android is easy to test and deploy but you'll be tearing your hair out trying to have a consistent development environment (fragmentation, frequent updates that break the build environment and multiple approaches to do the same thing, none of which are identified as better than the other)...

My recommendation, learn iOS, develop an app concept, port code to one of the multi-platform engines.

Android have more install base however iOS apps will sell better according to me. Since they are the only reason iPhone sells! LOL! So how does all this process works?

I guess i'll start with reading this - http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/index.html

Yaar first get the Android SDK and start making the app , see if you have any success with that , if that goes well , then bother with releasing the app . You will have to register as a developer in Google . I made my first app 2 years ago in 11th , wasn't too great , just a small utility app but it was not worth releasing anywhere ..

Btw can i make a paid app for android and other platforms? How will i get paid? I mean like there are restrictions on paypal and stuff, is there some kind of problem in India regarding the payment processor they use?

EDIT:

Btw, which SDK to install from SDK manager, i am doing API17, Android 4.2.2 right now as its latest, u were right, its confusing. Its like it have 17 updated packages!

Plz guide me with installations, o have installed API17 from - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

And JDK 7

Now what about Eclipse and other stuff?

just install all. otherwise you'll have to keep track of which API you are on when you copy code and open examples and stuff. I think there's an IDE bundle which gets Eclipse with it. look for that from their official download page.

also, 4.2.2 is only on the very top end devices... like S4, and their Nexus series. Ideal would be 4.1 i think

and read up about compatibility bundle (and weep :samui: )

It says minimum requirement, target and optimum (Not exact words but something like this) so an app can work on both and my friendz have nexus 4, canvas (with jelly bean) so no prob with beta testing and its backward compatible..... Btw, i created the example app, hello world! LOL!
