Why Steam Trading Cards should embarrass Microsoft and Sony.

Recommended Posts

Wonderful read. I agree that Steam Trading cards are one of the best rewarding system out there. It also makes sure that players get rewards for playing that 'favorite' game for months. And the ability to sell the cards at store in exchange of real money, it's just awesome! Also, somehow it makes the players feel good for collecting cards of their favorite games and boasting about it. We are gamers, and we love boasting about our stats, achievements etc. and Trading Cards are just one way to do that.

Hats off Valve, whatever you do, it's just perfect! :majesty:

Nice idea but it'll die due to low activity. We should stick everything in Steam thread.

Well, TF2 keys price went up.

Cards prices is slowly increasing. SKYRIM summer cards were $0.40+ yesterday, now it's $0.28 (almost double since summer sale. $0.14 to $0.28)

They are making so much money with little effort :hi2:

Also, with all games (and summer cards), they give repeat card drops rather than unique ones. So maximizing participation in the market.

I'm not sure about this, but shouldn't the article be in quotes since it's mainly someone else's ?

It should, but it doesn't look good. So I've added full article link below.

Anyways, I've fixed all quotes now.

Cheers!

So you get roughly 1.3$ for playing 50% of skyrim. So after doing same for 10-12 games, you can buy off a 9.99$ game..

SONY and MS should definitely feel embarrassed about not having this system. (-:

Summer cards were given FREE to all users who voted for community deals.

1 card for 3 votes for 10 days. So you get like 10 cards if you voted daily.

That's like $0.30 x 10 ~ $3. Steam was literally giving $2.6 (cutting the fee) to users just for voting.

So you get roughly 1.3$ for playing 50% of skyrim.

You don't have to play 50%..Just load the game, play for an hour or 2 and you'll get your cards.

Sometimes you get foil cards which are rare and priced high. $1-30USD+/card

(I got CoH 2 foil card and sold it for $4. Have few more foil cards in inventory waiting for price to bump).

Either way, it's nice little profit for users. With $3 you can purchase some cool indie games like Trine complete/Giana Sisters..etc during daily/weekly sale.

Excellent write-up, Joe. Worthy of a place in the Write for Us section.

haha, I didn't write up. (that's why everything is in quotes)

(will write about all cards and Steam later..someday).

It's from IGN and I've added the link as well. ^_^

Cheers!
