Rise of the Tomb Raider Is Old School, and That's Good

The developer has taken this feedback on board for Tomb Raider’s sequel, Rise of The Tomb Raider. In an extended behind-closed-doors demo, I saw a game that gave players the option to move away from bloodshed, as well as one that had more of a focus on its namesake.

“We have a number of main story tombs in the game”, says Rise of The Tomb Raider’s Franchise Director Noah Hughes.

He pointed out that the tomb we were looking at right now, a gorgeous, crumbling, monstrous thing, was a main story tomb. But the optional tombs you seek out yourself, the ones hidden away in a partially hidden path or at the base of a waterfall, are still a key focus.

We recognize that a lot of our fans want as much tomb raiding as you can get, so we still celebrate challenge tombs as things you can discover in the environment. And I think there’s - again, it’s not at the exclusion of the main story tomb - there’s something charming about discovering something on your own, something you might not have found, so we tried to take all of our tombs and spread it in critical story ways and secret spaces, and I think the two flavours really do round out the namesake Tomb Raider.”

During the demonstration, Hughes also stressed the freedom to take the non-lethal route, in part thanks to a new system where Lara can craft useful objects on the fly. At one point, she creeps up on some bad guys, distracts two of them with an arrow, before creating a makeshift gas can she then throws at them from behind a ledge.

“Within human vs human combat we are really celebrating the ability at times to avoid combat or approach combat in different ways”, says Hughes. “And a lot of what we like to do is make sure that our combat celebrates the mobility of Lara, as well as the intelligence and resourcefulness of Lara.”

Lol the Xbox channel listed video of the E3 demo is not available in 1080p

Is there any uncompressed video from gamesryde

I have really weird feeling coz they only showcased snowy part where you could hardly make out how it looks in normal fidelity

Gamersyde footage is 1080p-30fps.

UC is way ahead but gameplay wise it looks fun.

UC4 is on a much powerful platform..Xbox one games will never look as good as PS4 games..There is a reason all multiplatform game look and run better on PS4..

PC version next year will crush all console games on Ultra :D

Last TR on PC destroyed that TR wannabe game in graphics..

I watched that gameplay video and it looked okay to me.Nothing extraordinary(graphics that is).It maybe the best on Xbone but not overall one of the best visually looking current gen games.

Anyway,it's going to look great on PC.
