As for your question, EU and other paradox game series such as Crusader Kings and Hearts of Iron are easy recommendations to anyone who enjoys grand strategy games. Be aware that, its very very addictive and you will never know when you passed the whole night planning and executing your grand plan to conquer France or world.. some one who never played any strategy game, start with Age of Empire series and move on to Rise of Nations - both are RTS but gives a similar kind of feeling.
