naif
My son's birthday is coming up and he is going to be turning 4 this year and I was searching for a gaming console which I could gift him. I want to give him a retro/legacy console instead of a newer generation console like a Playstation. There are two reasons for this. One is that, I think he is too young to be able to play a Playstation or an Xbox. Plus I also want him to get a taste of how the good old gaming era was! So for that I was browsing through consoles and I came across these on eBay:http://www.ebay.in/itm/Sega-Mega-Drive-II-Video-Game-Console-16-BIT-TV-Video-Game-/251315767109?pt=IN_Video_Game_Systems&hash=item3a83964745http://www.ebay.in/itm/Sega-Mega-Drive-II-Black-Console-16-BIT-VIDEO-GAME-CONSOLE-WITH-INBUILT-CARTRIDE-/190877067959?pt=IN_Video_Game_Systems&hash=item2c7128eab7http://www.ebay.in/itm/Super-Sega-Mega-Drive-2-TV-Video-Game-Console-Sega-Game-Console-/321180832924?pt=IN_Video_Game_Systems&hash=item4ac7de949cDo you guys have any idea if whether those consoles could be original?I ask because they have 'SEGA' with it's original logo on them instead of something like 'SAGA'.Oh and yeah, I am new here so Hi! But thanks for confirming. Now about quality, are these rip offs any good? How are those Mitashi consoles? Or can anyone recommend some other alternative console clone manufacturers for SEGA or SNES? naif
IMO you should just get a Wii 15k console for a 4 year old? I don't think so I had to ask my dad for over a month to buy me a 2.5k SNES when I was 13. Are there no reliable clones for these legacy systems in the market? Shadoken
Sega stopped making Genesis in 1997. However they did continue to licence the Genesis brand to other companies to manufacture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variations_of_the_Sega_Mega_Drive#North_America_.28as_Sega_Genesis_3.29 ^^ I think any of those might be a better option. and like he said these will play Genesis games but I doubt theyd be the same quality as the original. If you want a NEW Original Genesis they'd proly cost upward of 500$ since they are collectibles now , you are going to have to settle for Used ones or clones. If you want original used ones , you are better off trying Amazon US , I dont think any indian sites would carry legit used consoles. Like this one http://www.amazon.com/Sega-Genesis-Original-Model-Console-System/dp/B0007MZWQS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376380496&sr=8-2&keywords=sega+genesis

LaZyVigiLaNtE
The build quality may be low but the games themselves play just fine on most moderately priced clones. Buy a cheap clone and replace when broken. No harm done. Hell, we all played on those Terminator TV game consoles, as kids, which were NES knockoffs. LaZyVigiLaNtE
^ Yes those were around the 1k price tag. Most fun derived from 1k ever I bought mine too when we went on a tour. @siliguri I think. On the same tour, I bought a 799999 in 1 cassette with the TMNT game on it at palika bazaar. Played for years as Shredder till an a**hole frend finally broke it. Fun times
naif
I would like to finish off this post by writing a quick review. I purchased the console and received it on the 17th. The adapter that came with it wasn't so I had to get it fixed. The wires inside were broken so the local electrician re-soldered them for just Rs. 10. The console itself is working fine. As the other forum members here posted, the quality is no where like what you would expect from the original consoles but considering the price I would say they are ok. The game selection is crappy though. The only games worth playing are Sonic and to an extent the football game. There are actually only 5 or 6 games. All other games which are included are just variations of these 5-6 games. Hopefully I'll be able to find some good cartridges and that should make up for the poor selection of games. As stated in my OP, I purchased this for a 4 year old and considering his age, he is quite happy with it.
