Heaven Angel
Current users of the service will be able to play their Games for Windows Lives games indefinitely, but don't expect to buy anything from the store after August. After August 22, the marketplace will officially close, along with any leftover credit you have not redeemed by that time. Microsoft is encouraging user to spend the rest of their Microsoft points before that date. The closure of the marketplace is a product of the upcoming changes to Xbox Live's marketplace, and the abandonment of Microsoft points. As part of the recent Xbox 360 system update, Microsoft Points will be retired and the Xbox.com PC Marketplace will be closed as of August 22, 2013. We encourage you to spend your Microsoft Points balance prior to this change. Although you will not be able to purchase new games, you can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client software as usual. Can I still buy Games for Windows Live games? No, the PC Marketplace on Xbox.com will discontinue selling Games for Windows Live titles as of August 22, 2013. For information about Games for Windows Live titles not published by Microsoft, please contact the title’s publisher. Ultra Street Fighter 4 on PC ditches GFWL for Steam Cannot be more happy. GFWL was worst thing ever happened. Rest in peace now, you won't be missed. zen
This is so wonderful. This has been one of the most disgraceful services I have ever used. I have literally given up on games because of the interminable loading update screens.
Abdulah
Well that was expected , considering only few title like ace combat used GWFL in 2013 . I remember the time when i bought my first legit game GTA 4 and gfwl was giving me some trouble . After no good support i was forced to use crack . Goodbye GFWL , you shall not be missed . piper
So what will upcoming games use instead of GFWL for online access?
Big Boss
If the publishers dont have their own client, they will go with Steam. Like Square Enix, Deep Silver etc. Now WB also joins the list. So it is like Ubisoft with Uplay, EA with Origin and rest all with Steam.

Right
Thing is people do not realise what competition can do to improve the scene. You'd actually wish if MS had supported GFWL better and it stayed on the PC. Steam has basic lapses like it doesn't download games when a game is being played by default. Features like "Play as you download" are never heard of and probably they will copy it off from Xb1 and Ps4.
Heaven Angel
You'd actually wish if MS had supported GFWL better and it stayed on the PC. Nope! Microsoft didn't do anything for PC gaming community apart from making crappy POS that is GFWL. Even UPLAY is better than GFWL. Steam has everything. You name it. Allows your to pre-load. Huge community Workshop Trading You can download games even when you are playing. (Its manual though) Cloud storage Achievements Friends list Personalization Daily saile Big picture mode Can access on your TV Can you controller directly without KB+M Online multiplayer - just one click to invite Groups Voice chat list goes on. GFWL has ...err.. NOTHING! Crappy service, no pre-load, crappy broken login system, crappy save management, crappy achievement, etc. There is no competition for Steam. Microsoft + EA + Ubisoft can keep dreaming on taking over Steam. Features like "Play as you download" are never heard of and probably they will copy it off from Xb1 and Ps4. Play as you download. We don't want that. We are happy with 3-7 days early pre-load. Its enough time to download game, get ready and start playing on day 1 without any issue. ALPHA17
Steam has basic lapses like it doesn't download games when a game is being played by default. Features like "Play as you download" are never heard of and probably they will copy it off from Xb1 and Ps4. You can enforce it manually. If you did not know. STEAM has a legit reason to do so because if you play a multi-player match while trying to download something in parallel, the experience will go to the pits. Play as you download. PC users don't need that. We already get 3-7 days early pre-load option and start playing on day one. I think he means games after you have un-installed them and want to reinstall them sans the discs. Either way, if you have faith in your systems bandwidth then you can manually enforce it.
