Right
No. Why do that when you can have the whole game in your hand two maybe three days before release, downloaded and ready to go the moment the clock goes past 0000 Hours in your region. I see a game on store on sale, i make an impulse buy, why should I wait 3 days to play it.
devil_angel
Why sell when you can get everything for less than what you can sell for? 40%-50% off on AAA title during launch, it's paradise. Steam is not just official steam store or client. It's huge, you need to explore every feature of it. It's all down to personal preferences in the end. I'd like to own a game, which naturally gives me the right to sell it. And it doesn't matter if it's 40-50% off and what not. You are blinded by the inflated console game prices. What you actually get on day one on PC is pretty much what the publisher aimed for. And I've been using steam for quite a while now, I think I'm done exploring :| Then there is no reason to live. I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. What you're doing is not legal - sharing an account that is. No. Why do that when you can have the whole game in your hand two maybe three days before release, downloaded and ready to go the moment the clock goes past 0000 Hours in your region. He is talking about a logic where he does not intend to buy a game day one or before. Like a random buy. And when he wants to start off, he says the feature will be useful. Heaven Angel
Like reselling. I believe steam doesn't have that. Again, it's publisher to sets the rules not VALVE. I hope you know that. Edit : @Alpha Many believe that steam is perfect. You can see it on this thread itself Please tell what is missing from Steam which will make it perfect. ALPHA17
I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. What you're doing is not legal - sharing an account that is. So, me playing a game from my sisters laptop is illegal. He is talking about a logic where he does not intend to buy a game day one or before. Like a random buy. And when he wants to start off, he says the feature will be useful. The manual download option is always there, as I said, if you have faith and are confident that your speed and bandwidth will allow you to continue playing any game (including multi-player) and download in parallel, Alt-Tab after launching a game and simply restart the download. If you are too lazy to do that, cannot help you. Also, if you are coming from the school of thought that I bought BattleField 3 / ROME II right now and I should be able to play it instantly, then you are doing it wrong. Sorry, 35GB is something that is holding me back too from plunging into totally digital games distribution but it is a limitation of my local environment so cannot really blame STEAM for not having this feature. You want great visuals but not willing to pay the penalty for it. Cannot help you, either you be patient and go retail or bear with download time after going digital and as already mentioned STEAM cannot ask BEAM and Google to provide FTTH all over the world. Please tell what is missing from Steam which will make it perfect. I would like it to have a better update system, that is easier to tweak so that I can prevent updates from downloading instantly. Also, better offline stat tracking, this varies from game to game. Some track the time I spent on them (online and off) but some don't and plenty of my games which I have completed offline show up with stats like two minutes played. As such, no other issues with STEAM.
Right
Alpha, dude, you are still not understanding the "Play as you download" feature. Please see the link I posted on the last page.
ALPHA17
Yup, I don know that. But that is not the entire reason why it isn't there right now on steam. Contrary to popular beliefs it is pro-publishers and they too are in favor of it. Atleast on the consoles. You know that it is a thorny subject in consoles, the publishers don't get their cut, the game stays in circulation and the middle-man line their pockets. This video is what puts across the point best,
ALPHA17
Alpha, dude, you are still not understanding the "Play as you download" feature. I understood it and I have posted a rebuttal, here, I quote it faithfully, Also, if you are coming from the school of thought that I bought BattleField 3 / ROME II right now and I should be able to play it instantly, then you are doing it wrong. Heaven Angel
It is of no use to YOU. That doesn't mean it is not needed. You raised a concern for the 56k people in India when Forza 5 required a day one patch The irony!! That Forza comment was joke. =\ You really think people sitting with 10-120mbps connection want that feature when they can download entire game in couple minutes? Like I said, it'll be useful of people with 512-1024k connection, not for 10-120mbit connection. I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. What you're doing is not legal - sharing an account that is. Playing from another computer is not allowed? It's all down to personal preferences in the end. I'd like to own a game, which naturally gives me the right to sell it. And it doesn't matter if it's 40-50% off and what not. You are blinded by the inflated console game prices. What you actually get on day one on PC is pretty much what the publisher aimed for. And I've been using steam for quite a while now, I think I'm done exploring :| You should not blame VALVE or Steam for not allowing users to sell their games. It's PUBLISHER who sets the rules. Also, if you can buy games for $5-30 (AAA title), at what price will you sell? Steam and GFWL ruined PC gaming No offense, but whoever gave you that title has no idea about STEAM and PC gaming. ALPHA17
You just described how gamestop works right now. That has nothing to do with what I said. The "gifting" of a digital game and the "used game" as MS intended was completely different. The publishers got their cut, the retailers got theirs. And you got to transfer the DRM of a digital game to somone else. Why do you need to do all this? Why? Transfer of DRM this and that, one slip up, one snapped connection (which can happen, don't deny) and you are stuck. Simply buy a game, dirt cheap, I mean dirt cheap in the various sales that keep happening and gift it. No need to get wrangle with DRM. Let the user decide whether he wants the game or no. He can trade it for more games. Also, as I said, spread the community without forcing people to buy into it. Tell them about it, ask them if they want the game, register an account / share your accounts (like I have done with my sister) and let them enjoy the games. Simple. You can disable automatic updates and use select when you want, no? I need to consciously do it and I tend to forget, so just for airheads like me it will be better if STEAM has it put up rather prominently in the options like it asks for updating my AMD drivers. I would like that too, but how will they track offline stats without internet? They can improve STEAM Cloud sync and it can track and account for changes whenever you log in next. It is really another issue that varies from game-to-game. METRO 2033 does not support it whilst the newer Last Light does support offline tracking of achievements at-least. It shall improve, lets see how long it takes though.

ALPHA17
And that is where you are wrong. I am sitting here in India with a 10 mbps FTTH connection. And I can't download a 15 gig game in a couple of minutes. No one can with 10 mbps. Why don't I need this feature? If it's possible it very well should be there. Sadly not all games in PC's come with a separate multi-player and single-player modules (notable exception is CoD and a couple of other multi-player heavy titles) so it won't work right of the bat. And texture packs, better graphics and other PC centric functionalities do have a fallout. Which ISP are you on? this means no GFWL support for Dark Souls 2 ................ prayers answered ! Someone is happy. Cheers, mate! =]

WhiteWolf
Steam Cloud storage Steam cloud only syncs your game stats not your save files stored on HDD....BR2 supports steam cloud but it only syncs my game stats not my save files, same goes for TR, RE:R and SR3....I will lose all amy progress moment i delete save files from HDD. Steam Cloud storage only works with selected games whereas Xbox Live and PS+ cloud allows you to upload save files for each and every game.... I like Steam for sales and discount only ... Heaven Angel
^^ If the files in your MyDocuments\My Games\game\savedata\< SteamId > folder don't exist, the Steam client will automatically copy them down from the cloud. If, however, you delete the file while the game is running, and quit the game, Steam will assume that the file needs to be deleted and will delete the cloud version of it as well.
