My PS3 won't turn on!

This is unbelievable, I'd just turned on my PS3 after a month of not using it and it was stuck on the loading screen for 5 mins when the lights failed! That's the unbelievable part. Just my freaking luck! I've tried everything possible, right from trying to revive it in safe mode as per the instructions on the Sony site, to removing the hard drive, dusting it off and cleaning it. I also tried to update it with the latest update via USB - but nothing seems to work. What should I do? I'd like nothing more than to fix it myself as I don't really like leaving it overnight at some shady repair place, also is there any way I can salvage my data?

Also, if I have no other choice and have to get it fixed, how much would it cost so I don't get overcharged. I live in Mumbai so if there's anyone here with recommendations, it'd really help. And if someone can guide me to fix it myself - nothing like it!

Thanks for the help, guys!

It's the fat PS3, no jailbreak. Lights failed meaning the electricity went off. All the wiring is fine. It just refuses to turn on now. It turns on only on safe mode but none of the options really work.

Check out some links, I'm sure I've come across it. However if someon tells you that you can salvage data directly from the hard-drive while the HDD is out of the PS3, then he is fooling you.

what a time for your ps3 to fail..5 days for gta 5  .....on a serious note...if the ps3 is fat, well its likely out of warranty,so your best bet is check out with some local repair shop,i got mine repaired once it has been working flawlessly for over 2 years

I know!!!! I just want to cry :suicide: and to think I'd pre-ordered GTA V. I don't mind giving it to a 3rd party, but problem is, I can't find anyone close to where I live. And there's no point in going to Sony and paying 50% for a new one as I'd rather spend that money on the PS4 :wallbash:.

I was hoping I could come across someone here who knew someone who could fix it or something.

Try these tips

Arrange a candle light dinner for her. Open a wine bottle. Wear Axe deodorant and kiss her gently :kisstogether:

Trust me, she will definitely 'TURN ON'.

You know, if I wasn't crying real tears of wretchedness I could actually laugh at this.

Dude,I had the same issue, power cut and it showed safe mode and all, couldn't save data but there was one option in safe mode which let me wipe the HDD clean and then ps3 was like new.

Trust me, I've tried all the options and none of them worked. I don't know what else to do. I have a feeling the HDD got corrupted? I'm also toying with the idea of just getting a new one to pop it in and check, but they're too expensive and I would stand to lose all of my game saves :nerves:. I feel like this is the apocalypse.

I don't remember which option in the safe menu it was,but you can definitely fix your ps3,you'll lose the data though.

But I've already tried all the options in the Safe Menu, including formatting the drive. It never worked. I also tried updating it via the Safe Menu by downloading the latest update from Sony. That didn't work either. I keep getting an error - I'm at work now so will try again tonight and copy the error number this time.

My hard drive recently got corrupted after I accidentally removed PS3's power cable from the outlet. After that, the PS3 always wwanted to do something(don't remember what exactly it wrote) to the hard drive when booting and got stuck after about 30% of the process. I bought a new hard drive, connected both the old and new ones to my PC, and cloned the old one sector by sector to the new one. Then popped the new one into the PS3 and booted it. It again showed the same message, only this time it went through 100%, and I now have a working PS3 with all my previous data intact. Try it if you already haven't formatted your HDD.

Just an update, I took it over to a local repair guy I found on Quikr today who confirmed that it was the HDD that was corrupted. He tried to fix the hard drive on his PC but couldn't, so he put in a 60GB one for 2K and it's working fine now. Well in time for GTA. What a bloody relief.

That's really interesting. Mine was a HDD failure too, I got a 60GB HDD this time since I only use the console for games and the PS4 isn't far off anyway. But I did bring back my 320GB HD so was wondering if there was anyway I could use your method to salvage my data?

I know the drive's GBs differ but I know I have data below 60GB on my previous HD. Is this possible? That way I can probably revive my previous HD and get my precious game saves back. What was the software you used? Thanks again for your help and that goes to everyone else here who chimed in.

Cheers!

I used a software called EASIS Drive Cloning. And I don't think you can make a sector-by-sector clone of your 320GB drive on a smaller drive, as even unused sectors are copied in the process(and unless you do that, your PS3 won't recognize your new hard drive and would ask for it to be formatted). I can't believe that repair guy couldn't fiz the issue. And 2000 for a 60GB is a ripoff(I got a new 500GB HDD for 3100).

Aw man, that just sucks. I had a feeling I was being ripped off, but I had to literally go to the other end of the city to get it done and I was too tired to argue with him. Maybe I can just fix the 320GB HDD myself using the same software? Then I can probably sell off the one I'm not using. I'm pretty bummed though, I asked him for a 120GB at the very least for that price but he said he said he didn't have stock - he only had 60, 320 & 500. He also told me that 320 would cost me 3.5K.
