My PS3 won't turn on!

Aw man, that just sucks. I had a feeling I was being ripped off, but I had to literally go to the other end of the city to get it done and I was too tired to argue with him. Maybe I can just fix the 320GB HDD myself using the same software? Then I can probably sell off the one I'm not using. I'm pretty bummed though, I asked him for a 120GB at the very least for that price but he said he said he didn't have stock - he only had 60, 320 & 500. He also told me that 320 would cost me 3.5K.

Where are you located bro? Go to the computer market of your city and get a 320/500GB hard drive from there. If you do get a 500GB hard drive, note that after cloning the PS3 will only recognize it as 320GB. But then you can make a backup of that drive from within PS3 onto an external USB HDD(and that won't require more than 60GB as making a backup from within PS3 uses only as much data as you have on that HDD), and then format your new HDD, and restore your backup on it to get the full 500GB usable space. Hope this helps.

I'm in N Mumbai, and I should have just gone and got a new drive and updated the software myself! But I didn't trust my instinct and by the time you confirmed my doubts about the HDD, it was already done. No matter, it was a lesson learnt. What I'm trying to do now is see if I can save my old HDD so I can salvage data from it. I tried using the HDD Regenerator software and it confirmed bad sectors in the drive but it's taking too long to fix it. People on forums have been running it for an entire week & more to fix an HDD. Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of time. I guess I just have to give up on my lost gamesaves. I could probably just reformat the drive in PC format and use it as a an external hard drive, right? Thanks for all the help!

You'll never be able to fix those bad sectors that way. Just clone the hard drive to a new hard drive regardless of the bad sectors. The content in those bad sectors only will be corrupted, and rest everything will be salvaged.

who did you get it repaired by? how much did he charge as service charge ie other than the 2k for the hdd..

He charged 1.5K for the drive and 500 for his services. Which is pretty shitty considering I could have snapped in & out the drive myself and updated to the latest software on my own had I known it was an HDD issue.

I'm gonna try this when I have the time, I've been researching and there are many tutorials online so it should be easy. What is the price for a 320GB? So I don't get cheated again.
