Panthelon
^^Yes, you can setup RAID using the SATA RAID card. Please check the link below for instructions. http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageI...mp;ArticleID=
satanicsaint
So i woke up on saturday morning to find that my PC wont boot and found that my SATA 500 gb had died on me. I have checked the cables , all good. Tried connecting it to another PC , still no luck. Its under warranty and should get replaced but thats least of my problems. I have loads of important data on it. I want atleast 300 GB recovered Where do I take it in bangalore? What are the charges? Anyone been through a similar exercise? arun360
Data recovery is a costly affair. Last I checked a couple of years back, it could be upto Rs.1000/- per gig.
Aftrunner
^^ And they will be able to see all your porn. Who know what filthy depraved acts of lunacy you have stored on your HDD.
arun360
^ Precisely why I never gave my HDD for replacement or recovery. On my list of things to do before I die is to someday learn how to fix a broken hard drive - That would be the day I reunite with my prized celeb collection neatly arranged in alphabetical order, tagged with year and movie name. And the couple of gigs of stuff I shall never speak about.

I did... twice..... once after formatting .. You got another hdd to boot???... then boot from it and use acronis disk director 10 and scan it....and see if it find any partitions...if so recover it... its not that hard... and this works only if the failure is due to corrupted partition table... And can you say how it died?? Just once you try to boot and it wont boot??... how did you know its the hdd??? make sure these Of if you not so sure you can send the hdd to me illl recover it for ya... IF THE HDD IS UNDER WARRANTY...

satanicsaint
@ arun and aftrunner Now, I rarely keep my ahem..."prized possessions" on the hard drive, only ones that are there, like " just downloaded stuff "which eventually finds its way in to DVD's. Arun, just like you one of my pals alphabetical order stuff got destroyed during partitioning exercise. To this day he goes in to a depressive state when he thinks about it Actually that incident prompted me to keep backups on DVD's. Now what I don't want to loose are the thousands of pictures that are stored on the HDD. These are various travel pics that half my life was spent on. @ Jeri When I boot up , the beep takes unusually long , it tries to find the HDD, and fails. I enter BIOS to see that the disk is not listed there. The disk didnt fail while I was working on it, it just didnt get started on saturday morning. So I`m assuming its not a mechanical failure and partitions should be ok along with the boot sector. Could be an electrical failure? The disk itself is just 2 months old .Thanks for the offering me the recovery , I might just do that. I just want to try everything at my end before I can send it over. I do have a spare disk , so I will download acronis tonight and give it a try.
m-JeRi
Well the issue may NOT be HDD failure.... coz that bios thing is a bit strange....the HDD should list..... Do one thing... before you go Defcon.... try connecting this to a pals PC..and just see wether it comes in the BIOS...just to make sure its not a PC issue.... and yes do the acronis.... fire it up.... and scan it... but for that it should be detected..on your current situation it may not be smooth... sure..i can do it....i know the pain...i think my second time ..i opened a panic-thread here too.... Don Karnage
I just got Cod : World at War and found that there have been 4 patches released already Can anyone tell me the shortest path to get to v1.4. Do I need to get 1.1 + 1.2 + 1.3 + 1.4 or just 1.2 + 1.4. How come there's no thread in the PC section for this game?
m-JeRi
Studios release 2 kinda patches.... Update patches... Service pack kinda patches...Although most times they are called just update patches.... Noticeable Difference is Size.. for Update Patches 1.1 -> 10 MB 1.2 -> 10 MB 1.3 -> 10 MB 1.4 -> 10 MB for Service Pack Kind Patches 1.1 -> 10 MB 1.2 -> 20 MB 1.3 -> 30 MB 1.4 -> 40 MB meaning all you have to install is the latest.... In your case i think is step by step... for games and all its like that.... definitely not 1.2+1.
Don Karnage
^ The reason I asked for World at War patches is that different sites are mentioning different requirements for patches. E.g. Gamespot says you can download 1.2 to 1.4 patch while in the readme it says that the 1.4 patch requires 1.3 patch. Since the patches are over 500MB I don't want to download anything extra if I can help it (I'm scared of being FUPPED by Airtel).

Don Karnage
^ Okay. Forget about games, I'm in bigger trouble now. I had planned to upgrade my CPU to Core 2 Duo E8400 yesterday (no E8500 anywhere). I upgraded my Asus P5B BIOS to 2001 to get support for E0 stepping Core 2 Duos yesterday and everything was running fine. Now the problem - The assembler guy started taking out all connectors and cards from the motherboard, when I told him on the CPU needs to be changed he upgraded it and I was able to boot into Windows successfully. However the TV tuner card was not being detected. So instead of opening the whole cabinet again he sort of pulled it out partially from under the table (and stretched the wires) and put in the card again. It worked the next boot but after closing the cabinet when it came to Windows the Avast anti-virus icon was saying no providers running and now nothing works in Windows (it doesn't even shut down). Ubuntu doesn't even boot (kernel panic). I disconnected the cabinet and checked all the connection on the motherboard and reinserted the RAM but still nothing works. Can anyone figure out what could be wrong?
m-JeRi
Can you say whats the issue again,??... Tuner card???... pulled from under table instead of opening the cabinet???
