Madmage
Am looking forward to buy a MAxtor external HDD 1 TB.. Good deal at ebay, you can get one for around 4800. Hows the drive? Am not looking for awesome speed or anything, just for reliable backup and the extra space
m-JeRi
WD>Seagte>Maxtor IMO... Get WD Green 1 tb and a Transcend Case..
AtheK
Agreed. There's a reason why, in spite of Maxtor being bought by WD, is still called Maxcrap. ya pretty much, also madamage i fixed the internet issue on my system, check back a couple of pages for the solution and try if it works on yours also. Don Karnage
Can you say whats the issue again,??... Tuner card???... pulled from under table instead of opening the cabinet??? No, I was just pointing out that the cabinet was pulled out (stretching all the connector wires at the back) to reinstall the tuner card. The problem is that once Windows boots the only thing works is opening the start menu. nothing after that works. Could this be due to loose connections or is the new CPU causing this. All the connections in the back are connected using connectors...only monitors have locks... If too much stress was there i think the some connectors should have pulled out.. besides.. monitor/power cables are VERY sturdy and the usb cables must be having some slack too... So i think the issue of ur cpu is not related to it.... so comes to your tuner card..i Still dont understand the issue... maybe a reinstall of the entire cpu connections may be good.... IF some loose connections are there it be gone.... But ur issue looks like a RAM/CPU/HDD related... if mobo fault was there then beep beep beep.... Madmage
Will search for good deals on the WD then, but they are pretty expensive right?

I did not try safe mode. I replugged the RAM and the tuner card too. There are no beeps, everything works smoothly till Window starts (or Ubuntu boots).

Don Karnage
I went to the assembler again yesterday he put the CPU I bought in a new setup and it worked fine there, he was able to install Win XP on the new PC (so the new CPU is OK). Then he put in my old CPU back into my motherboard, my Win XP install still didn't work properly (he claims its a BIOS settings issue even though defaults were loaded) but Ubuntu and Windows 7 were able to boot (so he broke nothing else on my PC). Now I did update my BIOS from the Asus site before upgrade and the CPU support page for P5B (http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us) says that the rev. E0 Core 2 Duo E8400 is supported since BIOS version 2001. Now the assembler claims he will try to update the BIOS and install XP on my PC but unless he finds a newer BIOS I don't know how he will be able to fix it EDIT: Is there anything else required while upgrading a CPU on an old motherboard (BIOS settings, etc.)? m-JeRi
it have to be mobo issue then... coz already u tested the cpu.... try using the ram on others also..... try to check the mobo with other cpu and rams
Don Karnage
^ Well the assembler put back my old CPU in my motherboard and it also worked, that's why its so puzzling.

With new CPU (E8400) + new test motherboard - It works OK.
