ЯeVeЯse
On ITWares, a Seagate 320GB (IDE) is listed for 3.6k. This should suit your needs well. Stick w/Seagate or Western Digital imo.
AtheK
Yeah the X48 just seems like a transition, X58 should be the real platform upgrade. And you call yourself a PC gamer  HIs config of GT SLI is enought to see thru the next 1 year with ease
ЯeVeЯse
Yeah, the new crop of Intel processors won't cost below 316$ on release too, I heard. Assuming a Gigabyte or Asus X58 will be around 250$, that's 550$+ for the CPU/Mainboard alone. Edited July 14, 2008 by Untitled
Don Karnage
HIs config of GT SLI is enought to see thru the next 1 year with ease Yeah I know, I was just kidding about the fact that PC gamers have to upgrade all the time.
AtheK
Yeah I know, I was just kidding about the fact that PC gamers have to upgrade all the time. Bitter truth but true...but if you want to play like consoles you can stretch a cheaper card for 3 years...like keep resolutions at 576p(as in consoles) and no AA your card will last you easy 3 years
ЯeVeЯse
Heard that the GTX 2xx series prices are going to CRASH by quite a bit. :rofl2: God I love competition. Edited July 15, 2008 by Untitled

Don Karnage
^ MS really messed up tying DX10 to Vista, hopefully DX11 can compel users to upgrade because it offers something worthwhile from the gamers' perspective.
Grimmjow
I spent 7k on a 640GB+2gb ram should have waited as now so many people will get rid of their 8800GTs
Panthelon
with all this dx10, 11 talks going on; how many people actually have the monitors to show these gfx cards potential in all their glory? Anyone with a monitor that can output 1080p? Currently i have a 17" inch monitor hooked to an eVGA 8800 GT and feel pretty stupid about this. I personally i'm waiting to get my hands on the Dell 3007WFP. Thats when we'll see the true potential of the gfx cards we currently own... Grimmjow
I dont think a 8800GT can handle 3007WFP in games at medium-high settings..correct me if im wrong as for the others im sure that most of the people who are willing to spend 10k+ on gpu will have atleast a 19" Edited July 15, 2008 by Chaoster

I would surely have a GTX 280 SLI setup But one thing is for sure, this 8800 GT was a godsend for us PC gamers at the right time. Else, an 8800 GTX was the only way of playing crysis properly, now my system can play this bozo with no problems whatsoever.

Don Karnage
I've got a 1440x900 monitor but my 8800GTS can't play Crysis on high with 4xAA forget Very high on Vista so my card is definitely not able to keep up.

IMO you really shouldnt decide that your gpu is dying out only because it cannot run 1 game at high settings. Crysis was a sucky game (for me) with stupid hardware requirements, and even Crytek was quoted saying that they had made a mistake and higher settings should have been released via patch. Games like COD4 are what the gaming industry needs. COD4 was the greatest game till now for me as it ran perfectly fine on my dx9 gpu(x1950pro) and E6300 with 1gb ram and yet didnt compromise on the graphics
Don Karnage
^ The GPU isn't dying, I was just saying that there's one game I'm not able to play on high settings on my monitor (answering the question above). COD4 was great and I loved the graphics in Dirt too so the Crytek engine might be at fault but Crysis was the reason I upgraded my PC in the first place hence the disappointment. Still fine, drop the AA, besides what's the rest of your PC? Core 2 Duo E6420 & 4GB RAM (XP sees 2.92 GB of it). I'll move to Vista 64 bit once I get my CPU upgraded. AtheK
^^ the reviews by all the sites clearly mentioned that until SLI no single card can run Crysis even on High settings with all maxed out at the time launch and till date. So i think you set up wrong expectations and got disappointed.
ЯeVeЯse
The developers did say something along those lines though. That it would run on max on a GTS 640MB. Edited July 16, 2008 by Untitled

The engine isn't the most efficient one around and combined with the lame dog that is Vista, you've got the perfect recipe for an attractive powerpoint presentation. I hope the DUNIYA engine will do a better job.
