Solitaire
DNS server problem like shantz says. But I found a somewhat permanent fix to this. On mine it does happen. But what I do is head over to Device Manager after a few minutes of browsing. Disable (not uninstall) the wireless adapter and then re-enable it. Then all the problems magically go away. Strange but it fixes it. Nowadays I start up the PC, then do the disable - re-enable thing before doing some serious browsing.
theneurotoxin
Airtel DNS servers work fine for me.I was using OpenDNS for a while but I found no real advantage and I hate a cluttered tray(the open dns ip updater) so I shifted back to Airtel's own DNS servers. What's that? I don't use any app for open dns. All I had to do was set open dns servers in my router instead of letting it take it from the switch (or modem, when i was using airtel)
Death Stryke
Changed the DNS servers. Working fine for now. Will report. Thank god torrents are working ok. But the issue is this and of course the ps3. The PS3 takes ages to connect and if this issue crops up, i get disconnected from PSN. Anyway, just updated with openDNS. Btw since I enabled bridge mode in my airtel modem, I dont need to update the DNS servers there right? I only changed it in my router. I cant visit the modem's URL anyway now after i enabled bridge mode edit: 1 more thing. Since I am on bridge more, In my WAN settings on the router, I have set the connection type as PPPOe, entered my username and pw and I have a doubt on othe settings 1. ISP should assign my IP? I have set yes because I know I dont have a static ip 2. MTU. My mtu is set at 1454 now. any changes there? Shantz
^^ Yup you only need to update dns settings in router because that is where your clients will take it from. Why are you setting it in bridge mode btw?
Death Stryke
^I edited and added more content to my last post. Bridge mode? Coz I read somewhere its better for the more powerful wireless router to take care or routing+dhcp work instead of the modem

Coz I read somewhere its better for the more powerful wireless router to take care or routing+dhcp work instead of the modem 1. That is correct 2. No idea.. MTU is a risky thing to play with though. I haven't done enough reading about it to suggest you anything.. I generally like the modem to take care of auto-logging in itself instead of doing it from router because:1 1. routers sometimes show problems logging in using pppoe through the modem 2. if anything goes wrong with the router, it is very easy to just connect the modem directly and keep working I think OpenDNS needs to your global IP right? In the rare case that the Airtel line goes down and comes back up you have got to update the ip which is automated by that tool,it's there on the OpenDNS page. I don't think they need to know it unless you are doing some kind of advanced filtering etc...I don't have any tool installed.. or maybe they have another service for a dynamic name for your machine like dyndns (I use dyndns.org, for ssh'ing back to my router from office for retrieving files or encrypted tunneling for private browsing, and for that as well I do it through router itself without any app. Airtel modems also support it in-built)
Madmage
My PC is playing normal video files well.. but when i play any of the hd movies , there are straight long lines across the entire screen, and when i close the media player the lines disappear. Its happening across all the media players and all HD movies. What could be the problem?

Does 8800 need a separate GPU PSU connector, like those found in CM/Corsair series ? Edit: And the usual suspects -- Loose cable/contacts, Unsupported Refresh rate etc. Edited July 10, 2010 by F@tm@n

dullu
there is the standard 6 pin connector reqd (which was also the case with my 9600GT) and i used the same....Plus the fan is spinning fine on bootup without any beeps, which would mean the card is getting ample power :| edit: yes.... cheap a$$ card...used..but have seen it running on another system Edited July 10, 2010 by dullu

I remember when I went for getting my system assembled recently, I actually got a 4770 instead of the 4850. And the system booted fine with the 4770 but the display was absent !! We tried a lot to get it to work, even changed RAMs and MBs, but the damn thing just wouldn't show anything. Good thing I tried this at the shop itself before paying. Phoenix Wright
I don't know much about the 8800GT, but just because the fan is working doesn't mean it's getting ample power. I had a loose cable problem with 5850 a couple of months ago, and the fan would still work. Just throwing it out there.
devil_angel
checked twice...the same setup has no issues if i replace it with my 9600GT.... Hmmmm, I've had the same problem before.....don't remember what exactly I did to get it fixed but it was very simple....that much I remember! Edit: Does it use a dedicated 6 pin from the PSU or is it a converted pin ? Edited July 10, 2010 by devil_angel
Bird Bird Bird
checked twice...the same setup has no issues if i replace it with my 9600GT.... Faulty card. Why don't you give it a run at a friend's place ?
dullu
now i have no option but to test it on Monday with a new power supply @devil_angel: its not a dedicated 6 pin; but a converter coming down from a standard 4 pin connector...
