Zzombie
4 years service from a PSU is quite decent tbh This is also the time your motherboard capacitors will start to fail if you are a heavy user. Good luck.
dabba
@Aftrunner.. try connecting your comp direct. ie.. without your UPS. it might be your UPS which has problem.. had happened to my friend once.. doooooooooooooooooooooooood he said PSU not UPS... Prathap
doooooooooooooooooooooooood he said PSU not UPS... he he heeee i know that sir.. but PSU will be connected to power outlet via UPS. so if UPS has has some then it wont supply proper amount of power to PSU. so asked him to connect his comp directly to power outlet without UPS. so that to check its not UPS's problem..then he can take his PSU to his friend's place to check it. Aftrunner
Its not the UPS. :| I also gotta take out my HDD and use it over at my friends to transfer data. f**k sakes, it just keeps getting better and better.
Aftrunner
Ok so its definitely the PSU. So here is my question, whats the cheapest one I can buy that will last until I build a new rig. Current one was 550W I think the PC can/should run fine on 500W or so as well. Any ideas?
Bulovski
Get a decent 600-700W PSU and you can reuse it on the new rig. No point getting a 500W now and then upgrading again when you put in a beast of a graphics card.
Bird Bird Bird
^^ +1 to what oldy said. Invest in a good PSU now & re-use it later with the new rig. Edit: Corsair AX series Edited October 28, 2010 by F@tm@n
Aftrunner
Nah. Whenever I do get around to building a new PC I would probably keep this one around and use it as an HTPC/Download rig or give it away to a relative or something. Without a PSU that wont do me much good. So back to my original question. Whats the cheapest PSU I can use that wont blow up the rig or die on me in a few months. Aftrunner
it served me well.. till it conked So you are saying it worked until it didnt work? I'd rather not risk what remains on my PC.

Aftrunner
Because I like my proccy, RAM, HDD, DVD writer, 3 case fans etc and wouldnt want their life to be cut drastically short by saving 1200 bucks on a PSU?
dabba
surely ur not implying that merely coz u choose to buy a more expensive psu the internal components are better guarded as against when u would purhase a cheaper one
Aftrunner
I am not implying that. I am saying that.

Phoenix Wright
So, my 5850 refuses to work. 100% fan speed, but no POST. This used to happen earlier, and I'd fix it by simply pushing in the 6+2pin power connector. Now it doesn't work even if I push it in hard enough to make my fingers fall off. Using a friend's 9800GT right now and it seems to work fine, but it sometimes randomly starts artifacting all over the place and freezing. Now I'm not sure if the cards are both problematic, if my PSU is borked (vx550) or if it's the motherboard.
