GS, it's better if you get it cleaned asap..Otherwise it may harm your system. It shouldn't cost much either. You can either do it at home easily (well, depending on the laptop company and model. I generally buy laptops only after finding if it is easy enough to open and tinker around) or you can get it done from some service center. They shouldn't charge more than 200-250 bucks for a complete clean up I guess.

Thks, i will take it to the service centre in next month after my work gets completed :). what should i ask for at the service centre?

tell them you want to get dust etc and fans cleaned up and try to get it done in front of you only.... btw what's your laptop model? I can check if it is easy enough for you to at least check if that is the issue or not (though 2.5 years of usage would definitely mean there is a lot of dirt in there)

Thanks buddy :)

HP Compaq CQ-45-137TX Athek pushed me into it :chair:

I am comfortable with desktop hardware, but never opened up a Notebook before.

I do vacuum the keyboard and the ventilation vents once in about 2 months

What Shantz meant is you can go to the BIOS menu and then check the settings where it says BOOTING PRIORITY or something to that effect. Change it (normally PG UP/DOWN but do check on the page before pressing anything :P) to make the DVD drive boot first, then HDD etc.

BIOS menu can be accessed by pressing DEL or F10 during POST. Depends from model to model.

Oi guys need an IEM under 2k max. Been using a Creative EP630 and it went down couple of days back. Need something similar.

What kind of sound signature do you like? If you like phones that are kinda low on mid-levels, the NuForce NE-7M is a good bet. I bought them a few months ago and love them to death.

Buy MSI 5750 for 6.4k

Will run prototype at max easily ( I guess )

Any card under 6k? He wont mind playing it on normal settings, around 5K? but I'll still convince him to buy this card. Its good overall, right?

and thnx alot for your help  Internet hardly helps if you are looking for a hardware with its indian price.

Hmm. I listen to all sorts of trance, electro-house and of course bolly.

Ebay didn't turn up anything for Nuforce. How's Brainwavz M2 ? Also where to buy them from in Delhi ? All I know of is PristineNote from TE (Mumbai).

Power consumption question if anyone has ever run into it. I am currently using a rig for work that has an X6 in it and I am upgrading to a 700W CM SMPS. I want to know what considerations to cooling I need to have inorder to sort out the case so that I don't run into over-heating issues later on? My nutter colleague thought it was ok to get a 450W MAX SMPS and I am scared to even try and run it for extended periods on it.

I had the ASUS P5Q Deluxe, and it was an excellent OC machine. I had OC'ed my E7200 to 4Ghz stable, along with the RAM.

That mobo won't be as good, but you should be able to get 3Ghz - 3.2Ghz on your Q6600. What stepping is your Q6600 btw?

also guys what the *bleep*....in intel graphics media accelerator settings, i accidentally clicked on "keep the aspect ratio" and clicked OK...i am using HDTV btw....so from there on i am getting mode not supported screen....i went into safe mode uninstalled that sh*t...ran C Cleaner and did all that analyzing and clearing stuff, then did the registry clean up stuff...rebooted....then installed intel media graphics accelerator again, upon rebooting same sh*t hit the screen...mode not supported....then during advanced boot-up option i tried enable low resolution mode, but that only got me to the log on screen, after that same sh*t hit...mode not supported....now guys what to do? is there any way i can change the settings of that media accelerator coz in safe mode i c no media accelerator?

Yup, the G0 stepping Q6600 overclock very well. I would expect around 3.2Ghz to 3.4Ghz, 3.6Ghz would be the best.

As for your latest question, I couldn't understand much, but you don't have a monitor to connect the PC to?

so do u suggest me to take that board? or else go for new system which i am already planning....or which mobo do u suggest for my current cpu that would OC it nicely and supports either CF or SLi

i have attached HDTV to the pc via vga, so, max i can do is 1280*720 or 1366*768...

ok, so i'll re-arrange my question:

current cpu(Q6600) + that mobo for 5.5k (ASUS P5Q3 deluxe) + gskill ddr3 ripjaws 3.8k + Seasonic PSU + current cabby (Zebronics Lava, can be upgraded later to HAF X)

or

should i go for a new rig:

amd phenom 2 x4 955 BE (6.5k) + crosshair 4 formula (11.7k) + gskill ddr3 ripjaws 3.8k + Seasonic PSU + CM HAF X(11.5/12k)

plus, want a decent monitor (led), and HD 6950

thoughts

edit:

current setup-

Q6600 + intel dg31pr + transcend ddr2 2gb*2 800Mhz + Zebronics Lava cabby + VIP 420W PSU hooked upto 26" HDTV displaying 1366*768/1280*720 res.
