If it's just the question of wiring.. can't you just rewire it yourself?

Unless of course, it involves soldering it and you don't have a soldering gun in the house, just take it to your local electrician..

The wire is so minute that soldering one wire may disconnect other wires. It is a bunch of 8 very thin wires, out of which one broke. I have taken it to all the local soldering shops near my place and they are saying that it is not possible to solder it and they can't guarantee that it will last long, so only option is to replace the cable or find a workaround to power the speaker ON.

First, post the model number of your speaker setup. Second, pics of the connector where the power control pod is connected to the subwoofer.

Eventually, you should rewire the whole thing. I had the exact same issue with my 2.1 and it was hell for too long (I connected them direct without vol control and used to manage volume from the PC itself). Eventually I got another 2.1 system and kind of connected both the speaker systems to make it a 4.1 B)

Model is CREATIVE INSPIRE 5.1 5200. There is no problem with where it is connected to the sub-woofer. Only problem is that there is a bunch of 8 cables which goes to the Volume/Power control, out of which, one broke. I am ready to connect it to directly without the Volume/Power control, so please let me know how you did that?

Thanks!

I believe the connector on the subwoofer side is a PS/2 type port and not 3.5mm/RCA. Put up pics of the connector so we can be sure. Also, a simple pic of the back of the 5200 subwoofer so all the inputs/outputs are visible (don't make me Google this, man).

Option 1 : Open up the volume control and you'll find three wires which go IN the controller and three that go out. These will be soldered to the IC. You need to connect them together directly.

Option 2 : Try finding spares for the entire volume control (I doubt you'll find it, but worth a shot).

I am planning to buy a desktop/laptop for gaming, downloading etc. It's been a long time since I owned a PC. I've been using office laptop all this while.

What specifications should I be looking at?

For eg. what type of graphics card should I have? Also, how much it'll cost me. My budget is little low..

Please advice.

PS: I'm looking to play games like DotA, starcraft etc.

Yes, it is like the PS/2 type (extreme right port in the below picture):

--> As I have said earlier, the bunch of 8 wires go in to the volume control. There is no separate wires.

--> Yeah, I have tried that but couldn't find it even in a second hand shop. They are saying that Creative inspire model's spares are very hard to find and that too 5.1 is very difficult.

The pic of the backside is damn clear, good camera.

On the topic : lets say you crank up the volume fully and somehow tape up the wire so that sound comes from all speakers, you should be able to control volume from the PC itself.

Easiest option is to force the input as well as output audio to be a mix of L+R sound. Benefit, you'll get sound from all the satellites but you'll sacrifice on the individual channel (sort of defeats the 5.1 purpose).

Tougher option is to open up the back panel on the woofer and mess with the wiring that is soldered onto the PS/2 type receiver connector (on the inside).
