alphabeta
I think my PSU is screwed (it might well be, being a CM model). Don't say that. I hope it is a heating issue, because when the comp is running it runs great - i mean there is no slowdown/hanging.

alphabeta
seems to be a PSU problem cooler master isnt a very reputed company when it comes to PSU's better check with some other PSU if possible Yup. Got a frontech PSU for 600 bucks (from bad to worse) and the comp powered up. Now the problem with the new PSU is 1) too less wattage so cannot use GPU 2) the cables are too short - cannot be used in my cabinet. So I am now stuck with 2 psus that are unusable. To make things worse, I thought the problem could be with the processor overheating - so i got some thermal paste (coolermaster again - aargh), so i took off the heatsink and put this one in - now my processor fan makes twice or thrice the noise. I think I need to learn to enjoy stuff that does not necessitate using a computer or my life span will be shortened with all these frustrations. Sit down, breathe lightly and start afresh tomorrow. Thermal compound roundup - Hardware Secrets. : Have a looky here. They started the comparison in Feb this year with just 5 compounds and kept on adding new ones every month till July. In total, they have tested more than 30 compounds. There'a an accompanying "How-to apply a TC" guide too. As for the PSU, you can try Frontech without the graphics card plugged in (provided the mobo has an inbuilt display adapter). I bought the frontech PSU as back up. However it also is unusable because the cables are too short. I have a cooler master elite 311 cabinet that is a bottom psu design. The frontech psu seems to be designed for top psu cabinets.

lithuvien
A question - 1.5GB GTX 560M or 2GB 580M? I am looking from a view of not having to spend any money over the next 4 years. (Given that the difference between these two is > 500$)

I got instore credit but no refund - which was fine with me - i got a printer cartridge. The other psu - i have to take it back to the vendor (different guy ) but that is not a problem - i mean he is reasonable. I will try to get a seasonic or corsair now. Big Boss
People, REMEMBER THIS: NEVER buy a CM PSU. They suck to the core. They will take out your HDD or GPU once they go kaput. I know too many cases which suffered due to CM PSU. Always stick to Corsair.
