Corsair or seasonic :good:

Ok...I am gonna get a lot of brickbats for this. .... let me take a deep breath....

While removing the PSU to take it back to the vendor, i actually noticed what model it was - it was a cx600 - made by Corsair !!! I saw the cx and thought it was cooler master all along.

Anyways took it back. Bought a new one from the vendor - GX700 Corsair - which is working fine so far. The old one, the vendor said he will give it to the service center and give me cash back / the psu once he gets a new one back.

Couple of lessons learned from this - 1) Get a good PSU - I know I got a bad Corsair, but the consensus seems that it is a good brand.

2) Get a big cabinet if you plan to put a gaming GPU - basically if you get a big psu and big gpu, all the wires will cramp up the space.

A good cabinet and psu should atleast last you through 2-3 upgrade cycles so it is worth investing in this even at the cost of something else. Over 5-6 years it would have earned its worth.

Mmmmm bro CX600 is a really good PSU ..

Quite possible - but for some reason i seem to have got a dud. I have another corsair now - lets see how it goes.

What annoys me is that I got the new psu and it started working and after a certain amount of time I just wanted to turn the computer off because I kept excepting it shut down any time.

EDIT : I have had some power cuts at home and it is quite possible that a power surge could have damaged the first psu.

So Diwali was good for me, got the following from various sources.

PSU - Corsair TX650 v2 - Enthusiast series

MotherBoard – Gigabyte H67MA –USB3-B3

Ram – Corsair Vengeance DDR3 – 4GB*2

Already have the Sapphire Raedon 6950 2GB and a Seagate 1 TB HDD.

Couple of questions:

1. Wanted the Gigabyte H67M - D2 - B3 mobo, but got the one mentioned above. Hope its not too much of a difference. cant really get much info online about the mobo i got.

2. Planning to immediately update from my currect Quad Core proccy to maybe the i5 SandyB 2500. Good enough?

Let me know what you guys think?

@experts

Is it a good time to buy a gaming PC ?

:fear:

Depends , but the amd 7xxx series ( Southern islands ) should come out in December or early next year with ivy bridge also coming next year ..

also with the weak rupee / high dollar + supply shortages leading to higher prices .

when is ivy bridge coming ? Will be quite a leap ahead from sandybridge in terms of performance ?

All in all I cannot say anything about performance increase as ivy bridge is just a die shrink but there should be some increase in performance and some decrease in power requirement but you can't say for sure look at bulldozer to phenom ..

Ok guys, really need a help on any good engineer who can visit my place and test thoroughly what is wrong with my PC? MC, this PC is really getting on my nerves now. I have spent around 50K and this motherf*ker just don't run. Thrice I have taken this to the shop where I got it assembled from, but it works fine at his place.

At home, it just refuse to start. It powers up, all fans rotate and comes to halt after some seconds... After that it just switches off after 2-3 seconds of pressing the button. For once the engineer was able to reproduce the problem(around 1-2 months back). At that time, they sent the MOBO to ASUS service center and they replaced the BIOS chip with a new one, with updated firmware. Though I could not understand the logic, the system ran perfectly for around 4-5 days. After that again the same problem. I posted this issue some months back in the same thread.

Anyone here who has some technical grasp on this subject, I would really appreciate if he can help me out. Others if they can tell me of a good engineer in Bangalore who can see the system thoroughly inside out, that would also be of great help.
