Sackboy
Thanks for the advice.Repped. But do u think it is advisable to replace thermal paste when my PC is only 15 months old. 15 months is enough and it never hurts to try
The Assassin
15 months is enough and it never hurts to try Alright I will try it.But I will first clean the heatsink and cabinet fans. If that doesnt work, then only I will replace thermal paste since it is a tedious procedure.
devil_angel
Hey guys, I own a ASUS M2N68-AM motherboard. It's says on the box that it's an AM 2+ motherboard which supports CPUs upto 2000MT/s (I don't know if that's a restricting parameter). Now, I've not been keeping up with the AMD CPU market and would like to know which would be the most reasonable processor upgrade for this motherboard. Of course, I mention 'reasonable' because I don't want to blow a lot of money on a processor now, because I might be using this PC only for a year's time from now. devil_angel
I've done some research, checked with Rishi as well. I'm looking at Phenom II X6 1055T. Only drawback is that it won't be able to unleash the full capicity of a DDR3 interface, but I'll have to live with that.
Big Boss
^Dont go for ASUS mobos. Go for Gigabyte, their RMA is great and the build quality is good. They also use solid state capacitors, ASUS uses al cheapo ones in some boards. Also, their RMA sucks, check django's posts. @Django, reinstall the OS man, it should fix your problems. I'm sorry, I don't think you got my position. It's a mobo which I already have (Have had it for a while now). And the RMA service varies from place to place. For example, when my earlier mobo blew, I got it replaced by a better version in 15 mins But yeah, these mobos are cheap builds, which actually fit my requirement. I don't want to spend too much on my PC anyway. X6 series is AM3 I didn't say they aren't. But most of them are compatible with my mobo. http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/M2N68-AM.html http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2Plus/M2N68AM_PLUS/#CPUS

KWC
Guys can you please recommend a SSD for my laptop? 64gb should be good enough for a bootable drive. How's this one from OCZ? http://www.ebay.in/itm/OCZ-Onyx-64GB-SSD-SATA-II-/280778609630?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item415fb593de#ht_500wt_1156
Bird Bird Bird
^^ Go for the latest Intel series. OCZ is ripe with buggy firmware for the SandForce controller.
The Assassin
@Sackboy:Thanks for the advice. Replacing the thermal paste reduced the CPU temps from 70 to 40 degrees. Now my PC is much faster.

TRMNTR
Guys, please suggest me a laptop. My budget is around 40K. This is what I have till now -- and I'm confused... 1. DELL XPS 14 2. Sony VAIO VPCEG28FN 3. DELL Inspiron R Earlier it was b/w the 2nd and the 3rd -- I was leaning towards the VAIO. Then I saw the XPS 14 on letsbuy. Although not available on Dell's Website anymore, it seems like a good purchase. But like I said, confused! Any other suggestions are also welcomed. Thank you! alphabeta
Guys, please suggest me a laptop. My budget is around 40K. Any other suggestions are also welcomed. Thank you! How badly do you need a laptop ? The expectation is that Intel will launch their new processors in January with improved power envelopes, so you will get better battery lifes. So if you can wait till February that will be great. However the current gen processors are extremely great for whatever software is out in the market.
