ALPHA17
Somebody hacked it, is my guess. And they made minor changes... lol. No. Seems the MOD's and ADMIN's were in the know after all this. My laptop keeps losing the wifi signal if its idle for a while and then the wifi connectivity icon shows me Connections available status but doesn't let me view or connect to any networks despite wifi working perfectly fine (can easily connect through phone so don't think it's a router issue ) Have to reboot the laptop in order to reconnect again. Using HP dv4 1117nr on Windows 8 x64 Which ISP are you using? Edited February 18, 2013 by ALPHA17

ALPHA17
You broadband. How does that matter though ? Depends I face this issue sporadically on my MTNL router, when someone picks up the handset OR if the connection does not establish properly, get a limited access error. Have to restart the router in this case. If this is wireless from the get-go (relay to your house) then it can be a signal issue from their end and no amount of re-setting the router will get you a successful connection. mshingore
No the wireless router is mine connected to their wired connection.. I have routed the modem to my wifi router and until recently I did not face this issue ever..
mshingore
And it's not even a limited access error. It's just zero connectivity to the wifi router ONLY through my laptop. Internet connectivity is fine as the indicators on the modem from the ISP show that and also can be verified by connecting my phone to the wifi network easily and surfing without any issues
Razpor
Reset the router. Again is it an asus router???

Razpor
Is the laptop detecting the router? If so remove everything from the router,,,,restart it and then type in the homepage for router setup,if that works problem is in your connection most probably, try connecting the internet with ethernet cable to laptop and se if it works . Also upgrade the router firmware just to make sure its not afirmware issue. Edited February 18, 2013 by Razpor

That's my point : laptop doesn't detect show any wifi connections, it just says connections are available but after clicking the icon , it does nothing ! There are 2-3 other networks in my area but it doesn't list any. So surely there's no problem with my router ! And the issue gets resolved immediately when I reboot. As a matter of fact I reboot being connected to the wifi network. Router is on the latest firmware (2010) Can it have anything to do with my drivers? Seems more like a software malfunction within my laptop rather than any hardware..
ALPHA17
Seems more like a software malfunction within my laptop rather than any hardware.. Can you check the router for more recent firmware updates? Has the issue been plaguing you since you got the laptop OR has it cropped recently? Can be related to Windows8 as I see no driver set compatible with the same on their US site.

Even I feel the issue could be with the drivers but this problem started recently; maybe 3 months after I installed windows 8. So installing windows 8 too did not immediately give me a problem

What receiver does it carry? Edited February 19, 2013 by ALPHA17

What receiver does it carry? Lol as far as routers go, you broadband is filled with dumbasses galore!! If any service engineer is called to my house regarding some network issue, the first thing he does is disconnect the router and connect the broadband line to my Ethernet port. Laptop is about 4-5 years old Decent config tho. Core2duo T5800 @ 2 ghz and 4 gb ram. Last night what I did was I added a wifi repeater to my room to amplify the wifi signal. It seems to have done the trick now I think because I did not face that problem today. Although it may actually be too Early to draw conclusions

mshingore
But signal strength wasn't that big an issue before.. It's a n+ router about 40-50 feet away separated by 1 door and some furniture. So you think weak signal strength can cause it to drop the signal completely to the point that it just does not recover?!
HotSonix
Can anyone suggest a good 5.1 speaker for my pc. Range in between 5k. Shall I go for creative or Sony??
ALPHA17
Can anyone suggest a good 5.1 speaker for my pc. Range in between 5k. Shall I go for creative or Sony?? Suggest you go for a decent 2.1 set-up in that price range OR a headset. A 5.1 for the price will not be a good buy at-all. From the value of the product to its performance. What are the planned uses for this speaker system?
Solitaire
Anyone have any opinions about the SkullCandy Hesh 2.0 headphones? They came out after Skullcandy acquired Astro and had some Bose guy help with stuff. Only reason I'm considering them is cos I get an employee discount of 50%. I'm considering them for both music and general use with the PC (I don't need a separate microphone).

I'm considering them for both music and general use with the PC (I don't need a separate microphone). I have very little exposure to SkullCandy headphones but in my experience they have a bias to go for bass over most other sound elements. Often this blankets the sound and kills details and other nuances. Recommend you go for a Audio Technica OR Koss headphone in the same budget range if possible. only for pass time and listening songs Suggest you get a 2.1 set-up then, most songs sound better on that OR stereo configurations because they are recorded for the same and not 5.1 systems. Where are you based, I am not too sure with speakers so suggest you do a bit of homework. If this is for personal use, you can also look at headphones -- Corsair Vengeance 1500 ~4800/- Audio Technica ATH-AD300 Audio Technica ATH-AD500 Koss PortaPro Sennheiser HD239 Please do your homework before purchasing any of these. Hope this helps, Cheerio!
