Which version did you get bro? Paying more for shipping is a bad idea imo though. I'll try getting it during summer through someone coming from across the sea.

I bought the Model B. I think there are a lot of official online stores, in many international locations. You might be able to get one for relatively less shipping.

I'm excited about the Pi. Dunno what I'll do with it, but I'm excited :wOOtjumpy:

Where are you based Masthan and where will you source these components from?
Are you looking to over-clock OR not?
These are the changes I would suggest in your RIG, if you are not going to over-clock --
Intel Core i5 3470
GIGABYTE B75M-D3H (instead of the ASUS motherboard)
GIGABYTE / ASUS GTX660Ti 2GB OR Sapphire HD7950 3GB Vapor-X edition (from the money saved on the motherboard)
Seasonic S12II 520W SMPS instead of the Corsair TX v2650W (in-case you go for the nVidia card), if you are going with the AMD card suggest you stick with the Corsairt SMPS.
Corsair Carbide 400R mid-tower instead of the Corsair 500R.
Logitech G400 / G300 instead of a G100, whichever keyboard you fancy.
Rest all check out fine with me.
If you are over-clocking, I might need to tweak the build a little more, so do let me know what is your tentative budget and where you are sourcing the components from.
Hope this helps, Cheerio!

I suggest you go with a WD caviar black drive for hdd...i did the mistake of going with a seagatte baracudda ...and its noisy at times..bugs me a little.

Also take a look at roccat kova+ mouse as well ,i bought one with my rig a month or so back and its absolutely amazing.

Btw why going for the soundcard ?? The onboard sound on that board is pretty good, its not something you absolutely need now,go for an ssd for that price and buy the sound card later i suggest.

Kingston v300 120 gb is pretty good ,you can get it for around 5800.

Western Digital Black's and Seagate Barracuda's are equally noisy unless you have got really sensitive ears. They are both 7200 RPM drives thus this conclusion. The only advantage the former carries is a five year warranty cover vis-á-vis the latter's two year cover and for that there is a price difference of ~1000/- Rupees.

Depends on where he stays, I want to review the Roccat Kova[+] but because there is no PR and after sales for the company here, also unless the dealer is on good terms with you replacing such peripherals can be hard, not the case with Logitech because these guys have a nationwide support infrastructure.

I would not suggest anything below the Kingston HyperX SSD's (if you only have them as an option), else others are --

  • Crucial M4
  • OCZ Vertex4
  • Corsair Neutron GT

All these can be purchased from onlyssd.com.

Sorry that I am posting this here but can't seem to find the MP3 thread.

Anyway

I just installed Max payne and when I went to the graphics tab, I cranked up all the settings to max including setting it to DX11 and turning on all its features. The game then asked me to restart to enable these settings which I did. Now after the restart, I did not see any notable change so I again looked into the graphics tab and it had all been reset to default. It happened 5 more times.

Can anyone help me out with this?

V300 is pretty close to perfomance of hyper x ,does better

too in some benches and is quite a bit cheaper.

http://alienbabeltech.com/main/?p=32755&all=1

Well quite honestly seagatte is a hell lot louder then caviar, but then again i am extremely sensitive to these things.

Kova + may not have that good support services but its a damn good mouse, but yeah can be a problem in case something goes wrong, but still its a quality product so chances of anything going wrong are less but it depends ..

.so yeah.

I have never heard or seen that site in my life, anyway in the Anandtech benches the V300 is outclassed by the HyperX but the performance difference is not great because both are based on the same controller (SandForce SF 2281)

Kingston Hyper V300 vs. HyperX

Compared to newer SSD's like the OCZ Vertex4 (with Marvell MLC) the HyperX falls short --

OCZ Vertex4 (256GB) vs. Kingston HyperX

As I said, better not to take a chance, it is also a pricey product at ~3000/- on flipkart, at that cost if you are a right-handed player the Corsair Vengeance M60 is a much more comprehensive deal (and better support in India).

HI ALPHA17, First of all thanks for the support you always give.

I am not planing for any over clocking. and My need is Movies Music and Games at good quality. If you can tweak little more to fit my needs and reduce in budget would be great and i am from Hyderabad and if need i can get things from Chennai also (If it makes much of a difference which can compensate my to and fro tkt fare.. :P )

Okay, Secunderabad has Chenoy Trade Centre which I have no doubt you are aware of, so you should scout around for parts there and you should get most of the components for cheaper rates locally than on an e-retail site.

Anyway this is what I suggest --

Intel Core i5 3470

GIGABYTE-B75M-D3H OR Intel DH77-KC (instead of the ASUS Z77 based mptherboard)

Corsair Vengeance 4GB x2 1600MHz

Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB

HP / ASUS (boxed) optical drive

Sapphire HD7950 3GB Vapor-X edition (from the money you saved on the motherboard)

Corsair TX v2650W

Corsair Carbide 400R

ASUS Xonar GG (because this has an optical out which the DX does not feature and the GIGABYTE motherboard does not feature as well, the Intel board has a optical out and you can go with the DX if you please)

APC 1100VA-IN (UPS to protect the system in-case of a power cut)

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

Sure, I can provide you with prices (approximations).

Intel Core i5 3470 ~11500/-

GIGABYTE-B75M-D3H ~4200/- OR Intel DH77-KC ~6500/-

Corsair Vengeance 4GB x2 1600MHz ~3500/-

Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB ~4000/-

HP / ASUS (boxed) optical drive ~1100/-

Sapphire HD7950 3GB Vapor-X edition (from the money you saved on the motherboard) ~23000/-

Corsair TX v2650W ~5600/-

Corsair Carbide 400R ~5000/- (go to Bhumika Enterprises in the basement)

ASUS Xonar DG ~1500/- OR ASUS Xonar DX ~4900/- (from Pro Audio Home)

APC 1100VA-IN ~4500/-

These prices are indicative and just take them as a guide, not actual street rates. Cheers!

I wont call that outclassing, for the price v300 provides perfect performance.I am using it and am constantly getting boot times of about 9-11 secs. Overall its worth the money payed for it.

And its obviously a better investment in any rig compared to a sound card, which was my actual point, but i dont think masthan is concerned by boot times ,so maybe soundcard is a better investment for him,a better soundcard is only worth it when you have a good enough speakers though.

Regarding roccat warranty well they provide warranty its not like if your mouse is not working ,they wont replace it.

I could say simmilar thing for OCZ drives as well,so i dont think its as big a point as you may think,so i suggest you go ahead with your review..

I mention it right there, that the actual performance of both drives will be close in synthetic benchmarks because they are based on the same SandForce MLC.

The Crucial M4 and OCZ Vertex4 have a more reliable MLC at their heart and that is why I suggest them over the Kingston product, heck the Crucial M4 performs below the V300.

It happens dealer to dealer and in a few cases with the main distributor that is Tiupathi Enterprises but I have no idea how long the cover is. Logitech has 3 years and Corsair's has 2 years no questions asked policy.

Again, I always recommend that you buy the hard-drive from onlyssd.com, no I am not paid by them, it is just because they have taken it upon themselves to replace / provide support for their products in-case they are DoA / faulty / firmware or hardware level issue.

I have no such cover with Roccat. Tried contacting their APAC PR section but no response till now, so most chances I will have to purchase it and do a review which will reduce the efficacy of the same because the feedback will not get back to the design team or the OEM.
