dranjithk
^ PS3 will be connected wirelessly. The PC set-up and the PS3 are in the two extreme ends of the living room. So, Ethernet cable is sorta kinda ruled out. I'm not really concerned about the wireless range. If it really is a problem, I can even get a range extender later. Btw, when you say N300, you mean the Netgear model, right? There's an N300 in Belkin too..

Btw, when you say N300, you mean the Netgear model, right? There's an N300 in Belkin too.. Okay. What is the distance between the two, there are no walls between then because they are in the same room, right. No, no. N300 is a rating, not a model type, even TP-LINK has a N300 MIMO supportive router for as low as ~1800/-. Here -- TP-LINK TL WR841N ASUS RT N12 LX D-Link DIR-605L Hope this helps, Cheerio! dranjithk
The distance is approximately 8 to 10 meters. The range is unobscured with with no obstacles in between. So, I reckon a mid-range modem-router can do the job. Checked the links you gave. And I saw these two models are within my budget. http://www.flipkart.com/belkin-basic-surf-n300-router/p/itmdffysphy699cy?pid=RTRDFFYGKJAXPUUG http://www.flipkart.com/netgear-jnr3000-n300-gigabit-router/p/itmdekmq2bzgfuhg?pid=RTRDEKJV9XCZMCGJ I thought Belkin and Netgear would be better in terms of quality and serviceability. Please tell me if they are any good!

Nothing against the company, just no experience with it. Stick to D-Link, ASUS or Netgear, if budget is a constraint then look at TP-LINK. dranjithk
Mainly because Netgear is a world-player and highly reliable. D-Link is decent enough. I'm skeptical about TP-Link and ASUS though .. Had a tough time servicing and replacing an ASUS mobo. dranjithk
Besides, the Netgear JNR3000 N300 model costs around 2700 bucks in FK. 200 bucks more than my budget but definitely not a steep price for a quality product! What say?

Had a tough time servicing and replacing an ASUS mobo. That bitch has left a bitter taste in my mouth Okay, I can agree on the ASUS and Rashi part but have also heard that they are actually improving their after sales support. Also in the first 30 days if the device does not work you can get a replacement / refund from flipkart. D-Link is older than NETGEAR and is also a world player so I don't see why you are discriminating against them. In-fact most of my early encounters with router devices in homes were D-Link pieces, I see Cisco Linksys as well and NETGEAR devices only rarely. TP-LINK is a recent entry in our market but have generally heard praise about its devices. http://www.techenclave.com/community/threads/tp-link-td-w8961nd-adsl2-modem-router-review.134058/

Razpor
Bit shocked with your previous post. But thanks for correcting it. I have only seen APC UPS carrying appropriate VA <--> Watt ratings on their package (if they mention it). They have a value of ~60% as you mentioned and the only one that I trust. In-fact my experience with cheap UPS was brief and rather shocking. Got my current PC in 2010 and skimped on the UPS at the end, bought a cheap 600VA FronTech piece. Cart all of this to my hostel, power cut, the UPS explodes (yes explodes with a loud bang) and only because of my surge-protector I think my PC was saved. UPS is smoking, leave it outside the room and it was promptly flicked the next day. Bought an APC 550VA UPS ~300W -->350W of backup, enough time to switch off my system in the event of our power cut. Still using it. Ph3n0m has a 660VA UMAX model. there was nothing shocking about my last post and i was telling to ignore the post before that where i suggested VA ratings only concern the time of backup provided. Ur ups exploded??? Lol that must have been a loud bang then,i guess it wasthe battery that exploded?? And yeah the value 60% (PF ) is very important,in most cases you can guess the quality of the ups from that alone. If phenom is usibg a 660va ups for a crossfire setup ,he may need ti consider buying a new one,i guess Cause a 660va ups is only about 390 w or so ,that may naot be safe.Atleast i wont feel safe if i am on it with frequent power cuts,i have ony a single gpu running though . ALPHA17
there was nothing shocking about my last post and i was telling to ignore the post before that where i suggested VA ratings only concern the time of backup provided. You don't put a RIG consuming ~600W on a 400W UPS, ever. It is a sure shot way of tripping the same the moment power cuts. That was alarming about your previous post and glad you corrected it. Ur ups exploded??? Lol that must have been a loud bang then,i guess it wasthe battery that exploded?? Cheap FronTech unit, I trusted the businessman, results were in front of me. No thankfully the battery wasn't fried, the power-pin though was molten and the safety-fuse turned to dust (the reason for stowing it away). And yeah the value 60% (PF ) is very important,in most cases you can guess the quality of the ups from that alone. Good point and no Chinese or for that matter Indian companies (with re-bagded Chinese maal) mention this in their backup figures. It is all dominated by dual-battery, 600W backup power stuff. This is trying to figure the quality of speaker sound-quality by reading its PMPO numbers. No connection. It is not safe, in-fact I would not recommend it with a straight concious. Even with intermittent power cuts, brown outs and power-spikes are best dealt with a multi-layered protection. A good surge-protector and UPS are the bedrock of this. Ph3n0m check the fuse of the UPS as well, has it tripped?

ALPHA17
CPU-X4 855 BE --> must be the AMD Phenom IIx 4 955 Black Edition Problem is my CPU temperature goes to 85 degree celcius on stress. When does this occur, when you game or by default, how often do you clean the PC? Not a good idea, a much simpler (and cheaper) cooler should get the job done. These are my personal recommendations -- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Cooler Master Hyper T4 What cabinet do you have? How many fans to circulate the air internally? A picture for the same would be great. will it down my temperature??? My room is very warm. What is TIM and how to apply it @Bit-Tech.net Best TIM application methods for different cooler types I repeat the question of which cabinet you have and how many fans to circulate the air. Definite and resounding answer, NO! Okay technically the SMPS should be able to handle the load but I would not recommend it, the eXtreme Pro series is notorious for poor efficiency and has an archaic design which has poor regulations and safeties that make components attached to it prone to failure. I would suggest you upgrade to any of the following SMPS -- Seasonic S12II 520W Corsair GS500W Antec VP550W Hope this answers your queries, Cheerio! Aftrunner
Need a really cheap laptop that can double up as an HTPC. Basically something that has an HDMI out and can play 720p/1080p content. Other usage will be websurfing. No gaming, nothing fancy. Something very barebones. What should I bet looking at?

Close it, air-circulation gets shot to hell if the cabinet is open always. Also this invites dust, tons of it. Also a picture (decent quality) of the wire management will be highly appreciated. Used Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond Thermal. How much did you apply and when? My cabinet is Frontech Shogun. This one --> http://www.dealmandi.com/All%20India_frontech--cabinet-shogun-offers It seems to have very poor, if any though about airflow to its design. And i don't have any money to buy better SMPS.SO i have to carry with it. Will it be at least run it ok? It will run. But this is at your own risk and if the components start dying please don't blame me.
