Hi guys,

I have an Intel D945GCNL mobo and just now downloaded it's tech specs from Intel's website, which shows that my mobo has...

• One PCI Express* x1 bus add-in card connector
• One PCI Express x16 bus add-in card connector

This enables me to install a 3.0 USB PCIe card on my machine, but my only problem is due to work softwares (company softwares), I am unable to upgrade past Windows XP.

So now my query is, if I get any of those generic or branded 3.0 USB PCIe cards, will I get proper USB 3.0 transfer speeds on Windows XP ? I have a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB 3.0 USB external HDD :)

Also, I have a genuine Windows XP with SP3 installed and up to date :)

Any help in this regards would be highly appreciated.

Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply :)

You can get a PCIe x1.0 / PCI USB 3.0 and attach it in the respective connector.

As far as I know you should not face and issues with Windows XP, although if you get a branded device then the driver support should be better.

Buy Sedna USB 3.0 accessories from Prime ABGB.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

Hi,

Thanx for the input. By the way, my x16 port is empty and not used since I already have on-board graphics, so my next query is...

Do you think my speeds will increase or support more drives if I get a USB 3.0 PCIe x4 card like this one...

OR

I know the above cards are Gen2 but will it improve performance if I plug these into my Gen1 x16 PCIe slot ?

Thanx a lot for help :)

You can mount a PCIe x1.0 or PCIe x4.0 card on this slot if you feel the PCIe x1.0 slot cannot supply the bandwidth to the card.

Being a Generation II peripheral the card will be held back but not so bad that the card cannot be used effectively.

Am going to Lamington Road today so will be checking out various USB 3.0 PCIe cards. Also, I think the 4x card would be costly so will only get the 1x card as many people (on other forums too) pointed out that even the 1x card would be sufficient if I have only 1 USB 3.0 drive, as even with the 1x, the bandwidth would be 250 MB/s and a USB 3.0 drive can only handle MAX 110 MB/s :)

Hey ALPHA17,

I am looking for Headphones. I already have earphones. i have so far checked the sennheiser 419/429 models. so suggest me in that range. can stretch up to 4-5 if they are worth.

Source of music. Xonar Audio card for PC. Yamaha Audio Amp for PS3 and Mobile is just an option if it can fit in.
