ALPHA17
ALPHA17: My current WD 620 blue aaks is almost filled up (games).. I am looking for a 1gb hdd drive for games. I also have seagate baracuda 1gb which failed once and RMAed, using for data. I am not finding much of WD Blue 1tb drives, its only green one. I heard that Samsung HDD pretty good. What do you suggest ? If you are getting any SAMSUNG Spin Point series drives, go for them, just note that you will not get any official warranty cover unless the shop keeper is of assistance. Also in-case of official cover the replacement will be issued from Seagate as the same has bought out SAMSUNG's hard drive division.
Rohan Seth
How old is it? Any signs of dust accumulation in the vents of the same? Only 2-3 months old. Nope No dust visible. I opened the back area and did not find any sort of dust.
ALPHA17
Okay, this is something serious. You need to contact HP and ask for a maintenance technician to drop by and check it up, can be a hardware issue as well a fresh-lick of TIM won't hurt. Since when you are getting these temperatures also what was it earlier (in winter).

The solution actually is to get the exhaust vents cleaned from the hp service Center . You may not see dust accumulation but your exhaust is clogged up from inside.. Normal blowing wont work.. They need to open it, clean out the dust balls and use some thermal gel on it.. You'll need to keep doing this periodically

I have the following three in mind (any one of them)- http://www.flipkart.com/samsung-spinpoint-f3-500-gb-desktop-internal-hard-drive-st500dm005/p/itmdgcb9vzrvcmsy?pid=IHDDGCB8BZJVGVNF&ref=d791fe8e-931a-4feb-9cc6-3bd2716533f1 Samsung Spinpoint F3 500 GB + its samsung spin point series - its only 500gb -no sata 6.0 interface http://www.flipkart.com/wd-caviar-blue-500-gb-desktop-internal-hard-drive-wd5000aakx/p/itmd2rynxjvuhnzf?pid=IHDD2RYNGSN4CGP9&ref=a01e3c20-d8b6-4b56-a047-3444c80370d1 WD Caviar Blue 500 GB (WD5000AAKX) + its WD blue -only 500gb -16mb cache instead of 32mb http://www.flipkart.com/seagate-barracuda-1-tb-desktop-internal-hard-drive-st31000524as/p/itmd2ryndzhc8zeb?pid=IHDD2RYNYVWPXZVT&ref=52281cf7-7608-4c8d-9c8c-0acb76767457 Seagate Barracuda 1 TB (ST31000524AS) +1 tb + sata 6.0 -after my last Seagate died suddenly , I somewhat lost the faith in Seagate I want a 1 tb HDD, but do you think 500gb HDDs are more reliable as they are single platter. why there is no WD 1tb Blue hdd in the market ?? ALPHA17
I have the following three in mind (any one of them)- Samsung Spinpoint F3 500 GB + its samsung spin point series - its only 500gb -no sata 6.0 interface The lack of SATA III interface is not a great loss as the real-world limitations of electro-mechanical storage devices prevents them from even saturating the actual bandwidth of SATA III for extended periods. WD Caviar Blue 500 GB (WD5000AAKX) + its WD blue -only 500gb -16mb cache instead of 32mb Pretty balanced although I do agree that the lack of 32 MB cache hurts its chances most. Seagate Barracuda 1 TB (ST31000524AS) +1 tb + sata 6.0 -after my last Seagate died suddenly , I somewhat lost the faith in Seagate I can understand your lack of faith in Seagate but in Bangalore I find them to be the most reliable after sales plus decent performance / value for your monies spent. I want a 1 tb HDD, but do you think 500gb HDDs are more reliable as they are single platter. why there is no WD 1tb Blue hdd in the market ?? Most newer generation hard-drives (even 1 TB options) are single-platter. For Seagate these would be the Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 series drives. Can you look into the local options at S.P. Road before a purchase, you should get Western Digital Blue edition drives easily, instead of hunting for them online. Rohan Seth
My laptop used to go well beyond 90 deg and in fact had switched off automatically on its own cz I had crossed the cut off temp limit.. Btw in what surroundings do you use your laptop? Bed, sofa, lap, office? Generally on my lap but when it starts to heat up I use a cooling pad. The problem is that I really need the laptop this month and I can't afford to give it to the care center guys for repair. Is there any way they could come to my home and clean it up? Sorry if it sounds stupid. I have no idea how all this cleaning is done by the company guys. Okay, this is something serious. You need to contact HP and ask for a maintenance technician to drop by and check it up, can be a hardware issue as well a fresh-lick of TIM won't hurt. Since when you are getting these temperatures also what was it earlier (in winter). Since a month I guess. I wasn't expecting such heating issues so quickly. The laptop ran absolutely fine during winters. The temperature rose to around 85 degree while gaming(BF3, Just Cause 2, etc) which I think is fine. See if you can spare that.. They'll pull the laptop apart till they get to the heat sink, take the dust out, clean it and apply whatever chemical is needed. Local guys do not use the thermal gel so your issue will creep up soon again.. Plus since its within warranty, it will be voided if you try opening on your own. I had tried opening and cleaning at home myself but was a tedious process and should not be attempted unless you are an expert in pc hardware and have all the tools necessary. Other than that, do not use it on your lap. The manual to my laptop actually said this: Do not use on soft surfaces like cushions, beds, [/i]lap[/i] etc Also make sure that there is at least 2-3 inches of clearance from your exhaust vents and the cooling pad. Else it will be advisable to use a simple laptop stand that provides this. The exhaust and inlet vents should not have anything nearby to block the air
Ph3N0M
Don't know where to ask such things, so asking here. Is anyone else facing random problems in YouTube as of late? Today, in every video that I'm opening, the audio(and some times the video also) goes off in 3 seconds, while buffering continues. I can then scroll to another time-point in the video, and it then starts playing perfectly for another 3 seconds, after which the audio goes off again. Rinse and repeat. EDIT: Upon further inspection, it seems that the trend is that audio stops after 2-3 seconds, and video stops after 12-15 seconds, while buffering continues. FWIW, I updated my Flash Player just earlier today. There surely is some bug in the new one. Edited April 16, 2013 by Ph3N0M

No problems should be encountered, save when the power cuts in which situation the laptop will die instantly. Good DiY work.

Try the link on your browser. When I clicked that link, I realized that I am already using HTML5 for YouTube. It says that "Some users of supported browsers are automatically entered in to the trial.". Are you sure that Flash doesn't impact YouTube in anyway? I'm asking because YouTube video still crash once in a while, citing that the Adobe Flash Player Plugin crashed or something like that. BTW, I'm on Firefox. Your exhaust vent seems to be easily accessible.. To access mine, I have to take out even the keypad n sh*t.. Real pain in the a*s.. But yeah good job.. Even I hate taking it to the service Center and paying them a single penny but HP users are helpless in this regard I guess
