I am considering that you did all the homework on the RAID modes; RAID 1 will not increase the total space of the setup, it will only mirror the data in the other hard-drive and that can be used to restore the original in the case of a mishap, virus or some such incident.

Steps before setting up RAID --

  • Is your hardware supportive of RAID and what levels.
  • Do you need to add bridge hardware, e.g., RAID expansion cards or no.
  • Are both the hard-drives of the same size and capacity, preferably it should be so to minimize space loss.
  • Are you interested in software level RAID (can be done from Windows Disk Management application) or do you want a hardware level RAID (from BIOS / EFI level), in the latter case the hard-drive has to be formatted before you can implement the same.

I'm aware that I'll be "wasting" the additional space on the 2nd HDD as it will mirror the 1st HDD. I have the ASRock Extreme 4 mobo, and am fairly sure it supports RAID 1 at BIOS level.

I want minimal overhead due to the additional read/write that'll happen. Keeping that in mind, OS-level is better or BIOS-level ? It'll be a bit of a pain to back up the data first to some other drive and format, but if BIOS-level RAID is better, I'm up for it.

BIOS / EFI level is what you should aim for then.

For this you will have to configure the SATA ports on your motherboard from IDE, AHCI mode to RAID mode. Switch the feature on and then specify which ports will follow RAID and which will remain independent of the same.

Then the RAID controller chip will ask you to completely format your hard-drive (takes close ~2 hours depending on the size), Once this is accomplished, select the RAID type you want to implement and reinstall the OS on the RAID drives, finally restore the data.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

P.S. -- This is just a general outline of how things should work, options and steps may vary depending on the controller and the BIOS / EFI. The above steps are what I did when implementing RAID 0 on my setup.

^^ Over-priced, unless you don't need a card that is so compact the stock GTX670 / GTX680 / HD7970 GHz Edition which are cheaper and more easy to source should be on higher priority.

Good news for mini-ITX PC gamers but not something that will make a dent now when the spotlight will shift to the GTX7** series at the same price points.

Corsair and Seasonic take out list of SMPS's that support the Haswell's extreme power-saver sleep mode

Both Corsair and Sea Sonic have been rigorously testing their power supplies to determine which ones definitely can handle Haswell's C6/C7 states, and both have a list of power supplies which are certified to run Haswell, and in the case of Corsair and their substantial portfolio, which power supplies should be able to handle Haswell with no problems.

Starting with Sea Sonic, the following power supplies are certified Haswell ready:

Series Wattages X Series 650, 750, 850, 1050, 1250 Platinum 660, 760, 860, 1000, 1200 Platinum Fanless 400, 460, 520 G Series 360, 450, 550, 650 M12 II Bronze EVO 750, 850

Corsair is a little bit more complicated. Certification testing is ongoing, but the following power supplies have been guaranteed to be fully compliant with Haswell:

Series Wattages AXi 760, 860, 1200 AX 650, 750, 760, 850, 860, 1200 HX 650, 750, 850, 1000, 1050 TX-M 650, 750, 850 TX 650, 750, 850 GS (V2) 600, 700, 800 CX 750, 750M

Looking for a laptop. Budget Rs. 40k. Primary usage would be browsing and entertainment (movies, music). The laptop market is too overcrowded nowadays.

Webcam, multimedia keys and such should be there.

The laptop will be purchased and used in Dubai. Not sure if that makes a difference to the choice but in case servicing or anything is a concern for a particular brand there, I'd like to know.

Could someone help me to open my NAT / port fowarding? Been trying for 2 days no luck.

I have a static ip.

Router is Primatel ADSL 2/2+

I've consulted this guide but it hasn't worked

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Primatel/P101/Xbox_Live_360.htm

Why you want to port forward? Is it for games? If yes, which one?

Because few games are client based which can be forwarded by simple /client port xx trick.

or just general?

Check this: http://upnp-portmapper.sourceforge.net/

Guide: http://www.howtogeek.com/122227/how-to-quickly-forward-ports-on-your-router-from-a-desktop-application/

Also, check port here:

(blocked or not)

Open diskmanagement

Then check your HDD (whether it's listed/connected there or not).
It'll be either listed as un-allocated or offline.

If it's un-allocated - right click and create new volume.

If it's offline - turn it online.

Also post diskmanagement and device manager screenshot.
