piper
IMO you should opt for a 22" fHD monitor, should save you a decent bit of money which you can invest in any other component. Also, start browsing TE/Erodov for deals on peripherals like kb/mouse/speakers, even graphics cards. You can get good stuff within warranty and save monies. Source everything from Nehru Place, one shot way to get a lower price. As Haswell and the GTX7** series seem to be in a perennial release-warp I suggest you go with the following RIG -- Intel Core i5 3570 ~13000/- GIGABYTE B75M-D3H ~4500/- AMD HD7950 3GB ~23000/- or nVidia GTX660Ti 2GB ~21000/- (expect the GTX760Ti to release closer ~25000/- and the GTX770 ~30000/- ) G.Skill RIPJAWS / Corsair Vengeance 4GB x2 1600MHz ~4500/- (RAM prices have gone for a complete googly) 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 / Western Digital Blue Edition 1TB ~3800/- DELL ST2200L ~8500/- (instead of a 24" BenQ) Cooler Master eLite 431 Black ~3200/- Seasonic S12II 620W ~5000/- Logitech G400 ~1500/- (or Cooler Master STORM Recon ~2500/-, putting a review up soon) and TVS Gold Mechanical keyboard ~1200/- Hope this helps, Cheerio! Piper uncle about your laptop, I doubt that most will get international warranty cover. Also any brand preferences. Will get back to you soon. piper
@Sacky : With a budget of 15k you can get a great card from the forums. Keep at it, within 1-2 weeks you'll land up with the perfect deal. @Alpha : The laptop will be purchased and used in Dubai, so international warranty is not a concern. As for brand preference, I'll go with whatever you suggest. Note : 1. Laptop will not be upgraded for quite a while, so it should have a long running life. 2. Things like USB3.0 will be great to keep it future proof.

I actually wanted the HDMI and audio out so that I can use the monitor with my PS3 , I don't think the ST2200L can do that ..

Already given the numbers for both and the HD7870 is at par, if not better. Now about the PC's from Nehru Place, the discount may or may not materialize. I suggest play it safe, let all the cards fall on the table and then you can make a decision at the f** end of this year or Q1 next year. techreport.com/review/23981/radeon-hd-7950-vs-geforce-gtx-660-ti-revisited/11 I am a red guy as such but wherever VFM is concerned , I am ready to jump ship xD Love this, start recording the frame latency. This is just a masala, already de-constructed and debated on TechEnclave and we cannot say with 100% surety whether we are capable of picking up these micro-stuttering issues in day-to-day applications as long as the card is capable of pumping out a stable frame-rate over ~40 fps. P.S. -- Have heard more complaints of nVidia users for Tomb Raider and BioShock INFINITE (micro-stuttering). Go figure. ColorCodePurple
I am looking for a good NAS (Networked Hard drive). I am going to use it with my 15 inch MBPR.[post=http://www.flipkart.com/wd-my-book-live-2-tb-network-hard-disk/p/itmczyyv9tjxgwhn?pid=ACCCZYYUX6Q6Q2U7&ref=c11769d0-e1d5-45db-905c-a5a9e7601939&srno=t_1&otracker=from-search&query=WD%20My%20Book%20Live%20duo]This[/post] is what I found from flipkart, but it seems to be pretty old (came out in 2011 I believe). Can I find anything better? Its pretty good. More options can be - 1. Buy a wifi router with a USB for sharing on network and connect existing external HDD 2. Buy a NAS enclosure from Buffalo etc (around 6K) and add internal HDD's to it These 2 options are slightly costlier but better for future expansion (especially option 2)
achilles
How are you guys getting/building a new PC ignoring the SSD?
ALPHA17
Alpha ji, eagerly awaiting your suggestions on laptops . Roger, uncle, go for the following brands -- SAMSUNG DELL HP ASUS Lenovo Now, seeing your usage, I would say a decent Core i5 (Ivy-Bridge) based machine should do wonders for you the extra graphical horsepower of an AMD Trinity based system will be wasted. Although you might have to pay a little extra to get a larger screen size than the regular 15.6" which you get for cheap on the latter (AMD APU based system). Options you can have a look at. Hope this helps, Cheerio!
Heaven Angel
How are you guys getting/building a new PC ignoring the SSD? Few ignore it due to price..but personally I prefer SSD drive for OS and applications. Worth it imo.
ALPHA17
How are you guys getting/building a new PC ignoring the SSD? Because a decent size SSD is still too expensive to make it a high priority component vis-á-vis a more powerful graphic card, more RAM, more storage space, an IPS panel based monitor. achilles
Yeah, but you could use it like what Joe said. Use it for the system. If you haven't used a computer with SSD, you really can't imagine how much of a performance boost it is. I used it for the first time in a MBA a few years ago and swore off hard drives right then. A paltry 1.7ghz ULV processor was outperforming a souped up MBP in all everyday tasks just coz of the SSD. A paltry 1.7ghz ULV processor was outperforming a souped up MBP in all everyday tasks just coz of the SSD. I hope you know, how much space you need on a gaming RIG these days. An SSD will only affect the applications that are installed on it and 120GB / 128GB models just won't cut it for that reason. Also, overtime SSD cells die so they have to replaced by fresh cells; because due to multiple write-erase cycles the efficacy of the older ones goes down till they finally have to be replaced. For this reason an SSD is never to be used at full capacity as overtime and deteriorating cells later the performance of the same will suffer in the long term. All said and done, build a gaming RIG with a SSD on it (Marvell or newer MLC based please) and try to put it in a decent budget. P.S. -- I have used a RIG with an SSD on it, so I do know what a difference it makes, just that it needs to go lower to appeal to the average buyer on the block. No point cobbling together a RIG like the the OEM's and selling it at a break-even point. Edited May 29, 2013 by ALPHA17
