mshingore
Also, friend has got a 64 bit windows 7 installed on a 2 gb ram system. Dell doesn't support it's drivers beyond 32 bit windows 7. So I formatted it to install a 32 bit version from an all in one disc that I have. Problem is since there's a 64 bit OS pre installed, it tends to install the 64 bit version by default, never giving me an option to choose. How do I change this? Heaven Angel
You sure that Dell doesn't support drivers beyond 32 bit? http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/ If you have formatted, there shouldn't be 64 bit OS. Completely format it using OS boot menu.
mshingore
You sure that Dell doesn't support drivers beyond 32 bit? http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/ Yeah it's a dell Vostro 1015. The official website doesn't have support beyond win 7 32 bit. Hence the display driver too is giving some issues.. I did a complete format but to no avail.. Installed 64 bit by default Edited September 8, 2013 by mshingore

Heaven Angel
Hmm, weird it has 64bit drivers for everything except display driver. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/vostro-1015.html Actually, most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. Did you try changing compatibility mode? Is it direct setup.exe or 16 bit extract installer? I did a complete format but to no avail.. Installed 64 bit by default Hmm, weird. Are you using disc to install or running installer directly from desktop?
kaz_devil
No. Can you suggest me a mobo which is SLi compatible at around the same price.

mshingore
Use hdd sentinel and check HDD health status first. Could be bad disk drive sector which makes the drive stuck while trying to access. Check disk management and see if everything is fine there. Run chkdsk /r on the drive. If everything fails, try to format it. The disk is making some weird screeching noise.. I think there's physical damage.. Even HD sentinel hangs as soon as I plug in the HD

If data is not that important, try to format the drive.

ALPHA17
Can you suggest me a mobo which is SLi compatible at around the same price. Nope, most SLi compatible motherboards are beyond ~10000/- because the license and hardware requirement for implementing the same.
mshingore
Hmm, you need professional help if you want to recover data and sometimes even they might fail. If data is not that important, try to format the drive. Went into gparted and tried. It takes an awfully long time to detect it. And says error on dev/sdb . When i try to format it, it asks me to create a new partition table. When i do, I get the error: "libparted bug found input/output error" I guess the disk is damaged beyond repair. Anyways formatting the disc would erase all the data anyways rendering the whole exercise pointless

Okay then should i go with the AMD card since the board supports Crossfire? Or should i stick with single GTX 760.
ALPHA17
Okay then should i go with the AMD card since the board supports Crossfire? Or should i stick with single GTX 760. ^^ Single GTX760 for now should last you two years in good stead. Same with the HD7950 3GB. Also, less issues of drivers, profiles and such when new games release. If you can be patient and hold on for a bit, then AMD shall unveil its successor to the HD7*** series at the end of the month and by late November it should arrive in the market, so you will be covered. Hope this helps, Cheerio!

mshingore
Can anyone suggest a laptop for the following requirements? 1. General office use 2. AutoCAD drawing and 3D modelling 3. Non gaming pc is fine 4. Screen size 12-13 ". Want a sleek and light laptop 5. Price range 30-40k (plus minus 2k) 6. Low maintenance (my current HP Pavilion dv4 1117nr gets its exhaust vents choked frequently due to dust causing heating problems as well as slow down of pc. It constantly needs AC power supply. On battery alone it hangs in no time due to heating. I have to spend 1000 bucks every 6-8 months to get it cleaned. I DON'T want that.) 7. HDMI output necessary. Would want it to be future proof as far as possible. Edit: also, will it be possible to transfer my current windows 8 license to my new laptop?
