mango_man
It improves the efficiency of a heatsink by filling air gaps that occur when the irregular surface of a heat generating component (CPU or GPU) is pressed against the irregular surface of a heatsink. 1. No, that doesn't damage your CPU. Backside is just the backside. You need to re-apply thermal paste. 2. No. This has nothing to do with warranty. 3. No. Fire, You can buy from any local computer store. it's cheap. ~$2-5 4. Nothing to worry. I cleaned mine with fingers before checking up online. 5. Nothing. Just get thermal paste, apply properly and done. Thanks so much.. can you link me to some thermal paste I can buy online? Cheapest good option plz
Star Lord
Having trouble launching BF3. After installing browser plugin tons of times it still asks for installing plugin and there's no way I can skip that screen Tried reinstalling plugin and different browsers but still not working. Plz help Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 I had same issue for weeks. Yes weeks. Every time I visited Battlelog, it asked me to install browser plugin. So freaking annoying. However, I don't have this issue now. Fixed automatically. ALPHA17
Deepcool Z3 seems decent No. Check PC Cooling thread. Make sure you apply properly. ^^ Depends on the TIM type, you don't do it like this with something like Arctic Silver 5 which will leak out once you place the cooler tower and then short-circuit. Generally a blob in the centre (tiny amount in case of metal TIM, H or X shape in other cases) is best. Over time the pressure of the cooler and the heat will make the TIM set in the most appropriate manner to block out the air gaps. piper
I recall posting about this earlier but didn't really do anything about it then. Monitor is connected via HDMI-HDMI cable to my PC. Everytime a switch (light/fan) is flipped in the room the display blinks for a second. The issue does not recur if I am using VGA cable (from laptop) to monitor. My monitor is a Dell ST2210, has following ports : GPU has following ports : I was earlier using a DVI-VGA adapter and this blinking issue kind of disappeared. But after upgrading to Windows 8, my monitor's native resolution does not get picked up if I connect as GPU->DVI->Adapter->VGA-Monitor. Tinkering with ATI Catalyst didn't help. I eventually gave up and moved to HDMI-HDMI cable. I would love to try configuring via the adapter again but I sold it off with my old card (buyer insisted :| ). Now I have two options : 1. Buy a DVI-VGA adapter again and try my luck 2. Buy a DVI-DVI cable and connect directly to monitor (never used this) Anyone having an idea why this issue occurs (only through HDMI at that too). Normally it wouldn't matter but my daughter loves to toggle switches all over the house like they're toys and that really lowers my K/D
ALPHA17
^^ The buy an adapter again seems the sanest choice.

piper
Follow up to the UPS issue I was facing : APC guys replaced the UPS battery but the issue persists. If I've even loaded up BF4 (main menu), the UPS (APC RS 600) doesn't last even 5 seconds. I figure the TDP of the system is too much for the UPS. Proccy is i5 2500k GPU is 6970 Monitor is 22" Dell ST2210 PSU is Seasonic S12 II 620 I'm looking at around 350-400W load give or take. So what rating of UPS should I go for? I don't mind springing for a higher rated one than I need atm, so that any future upgrade/load increase will be taken care of. I'm thinking this one. As per the APC website, with a 400W load it should last 3 minutes. I actually need just a minute or two of backup.
Ethan Hunt
I have a similiar problem. I have currently connected my 600VA UPS to my comp & router - i5-4670k GTX 760 24" Dell Monitor PSU is Seasonic 520w If the computer is idling - i get backup; but if i am playing a game - 9 times out of 10 the UPS cant support it. I was thinking of buying the 1.1KVA APC just to be on the absolutely safe side - but if your experiment with the 800VA APC works - might buy that. I need backup for 30 sec max as the gen kicks in by then. Follow up to the UPS issue I was facing : APC guys replaced the UPS battery but the issue persists. ALPHA17
Go for the 800VA UPS Piper Sir. Ideally it should be more than enough for your RIG.

Coz the 1.1kVA costs around 6k and I don't want to dump a load of money into this.

I bought an APC 700VA recently, have not faced any issues but my system should be drawing less power than yours, so that is that. I have a similiar problem. You should do fine with a APC 700VA UPS as well. I am kind of headed towards SP road tomorrow. Maybe I should pick one up there and save on shipping. But then again, travelling there on bike, so lugging it around would be a challenge (should carry a spare bag). Would it make sense to spring in an extra 1500-2000 bucks and go for 1100VA model? Depends, first enquire for an 700VA -->1000VA model, if the price difference between them is too extreme, weigh your choices.

Big Boss
I am completely broke but still asking, considering my motherboard, what is the best CPU I can get and at what price? It supports AM3+ socket. Gaming wise, which will improve the performance? CPU upgrade or GPU upgrade?
