Hi All,

Need expert opinion to buy a mid level gaming capable laptop with a max budget of 73-75K. After a lot research I narrowed down to following four:

1. Lenovo Ideapad Y510 :72k . 2GB GT 750M, ultrabay and I7 4700MQ haswell processor.- My initial choice, but heard has a lot of heating issues and throttles easily during Turbo boost

2. Lenovo Ideapad Y510P : 60-62k.2GB GT 750M and I5 4200M processor : As like 1 heard has a lot of heating issues, but price is lot less and not sure whether processor of 1 is worth additional 10K.

3. Dell Inspiron 15 3537: 60K. 2GB AMD 8850M and i7 4500U: Safe choice, but a weak processor. Tried and tested via a friend.

4. HP Envy 15-j133TX: 75K. 4GB GT 750M and i7 4702MQ processor: A bit high on bucks. Not sure how additional 2 GB graphics will help.

Please provide me with useful feedback on these based on gaming capability and durability as a laptop.

Please note: My benchmark is not based on power consumption as I rarely will use my laptop in battery.

Will appreciate new suggestions as well.

Thanks in advance.

Your choice is really only between these two Sir, I would say go for the more expensive variant simply because of the Core i7 processor onboard. It will come handy in the future if not immediately.

The additional 2GB V-RAM on the HP laptop is not worth the price increment vis-á-vis performance increase.

You can check out more details by visiting notebookcheck.net.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

Planning to upgrade my Processor ( intel i3 2120) .Budget 15k . Thinking of getting FX8320 + Mobo supporting AMD cpu ( ??) .

Why not go for a FX-6300 and an ASUS M5A97M-R2.0 or an AMD APU based set-up instead of a top tier octa-core.

Will it be a good grade over i3 2120 ?? Also cost of both?

I would say wait till Watch_ Dogs releases and see how that performs on your current RIG and if multi-core CPU's manage to make a dent in the benchmarks.

If they do then the FX-6300 will be a good upgrade over the Core i3, else you might have to consider raising your budget a little to accommodate the current generation of Intel processors.

The FX-6300 and the ASUS M5A97M-R2.0 should set you back by ~7500/- and ~6500/- respectively on-street.

Suggest best possible AM3 socket motherboard within 3K.

There should be a couple of GIGABYTE and ASUS motherboards based on the 760G / 780G chip-set retailing around that price-point.

Can someone suggest me a good gaming mouse. My budget is around 3-4k. I have been using Deathadder (3.5G) from past couple of years so have got used to its feel. I have attached an image to show how i hold the mouse.

fymr0z.jpg

I don't know if its palm or claw method.

I'm pretty much against Logitech so i wouldn't buy that. Any other brand will do. I was kind of interested in Roccat Kova + but i don't know how it is compared to deathadder in feel and comfortability also i have heard that Roccat's RMA in India isn't good. Can someone shed some light on it,

Thanks.

It is a palm grip.

And why is it so?

The Roccat Kova[+] is better suited to claw / fingertip grip because it does not have the substantial hump that is the feature of the Razer Death Adder and other palm grip oriented mice.

These are the mice I would suggest,

  • LOGITECH G400s / G500
  • Corsair Raptor M45 / Vengeance M65
  • Roccat Savu / Kone Core Edition

I had used my friend's logitech g500 with that weight system n all.. Wasn't satisfied even a bit. What about Roccat's RMA ? does it exist anymore in india ? as i heard that the one who serviced it is no longer in business. Also by kone core edition u mean the pure edition ?

The I would be sad to inform you that the Corsair M65 also features a weight system, so best you avoid that as well.

Stop writing off a company just because one component did not suit your needs, the LOGITECH G500 features a weight system because it is demanded of a product of that price-range, the lower end G400s does not. It does share the same lineage in the MX-518 which is widely considered to be the pioneer gaming mouse in the industry. Most palm-grip mice can trace themselves to the basic design of the same.

If I am not misinformed Tirupati Enterprises (Calcutta based) is their front in India and they should have the latest information on RMA and after-sales. Although like Razer I don't expect them to have anything more than a year's coverage on the products.

LOGITECH and Corsair on the other hand provide three years warranty and have a solid after-sales network in all major metros.

Cooler Master India provides between one and two years of cover depending on the product.

Also by kone core edition u mean the pure edition ?

Yes the Pure or the Pure Colour Edition, I do not understand why the former is costing 7px-Indian_Rupee_symbol.svg.png500 more though. Because it seems to be par for features and functionality with the latter colourful edition.

Actually, the mouse was too slow when cursor is moved whether it had weights or not which i didn't like I don't know if it was defective or suppose to be that way cause my friend was pretty comfortable with it. It had high dpi too.. Maybe its a misconception i have, i don't know. I have used MX518..it was a very good mouse. Also, M65 you mentioned is a laser mouse. I'm looking for optical. I don't play on a very high dpi.

Ya, about Tirupati Enterprises last i heard was that they don't RMA Roccat products anymore. I don't know how far its true.

You are confused or unsure or at-least that is what I am getting out of this post you made.

Also, optical sensors are limited to 4000dpi so either you have to go with a LASER sensor based mice or work around that by investing in a speed type mouse-mat.

Also all these mice come with adjustable sensitivity so you can start with low sensitivity, acclimatise and increase it over-time as you become more comfortable.

Just call them up and find out who is responsible now.

Their site still has a sizeable catalogue of Roccat available for sale.

Well, i have a razer goliathus fragged control edition so i guess i would need a high speed mouse..Am i right ?

Also, most of them suggest me optical is better for gaming(especially FPS) and laser is good for MMO games. What do you think. I use my mouse only to play FPS otherwise for hack and slash games or platformers i use a controller.

I maybe confused. I need to give another try to those weight adjustable mouse. Corsair looks pretty funky kind of mouse by its design. Must be good ergonomically. Also i'm looking forward for a gaming keyboard and i'm waiting for these to release.

Yeah! A fast optical / LASER sensor based mouse is your best bet.

I have been gaming on optical through out. I find it good enough for my needs. Early generation of LASER sensors had tracking issues which were progressively removed.

Don't get the logic of how LASER mice are better for MMO's though, any mouse / keyboard with macro capability and extra buttons / switches to assign them to is good for MMO's. Also, if you plan to do multi-monitor gaming, a LASER sensor based mouse becomes a must because of the screen-space and the need to traverse rapidly across the same.

I don't even want to know the price tag on this thing.

I am a little tired of all this BLING. Either it should add functionality or it should be kept out, the novelty of 16.8 million colours will wear out very soon.

Well, i plan to use a single monitor for now atleast but, i feel it'll be a good investment in buying a laser mouse.

I doubt it would be very expensive. Recently they released a new version of K40 with RGB rubber dome keys which costs around 80$. The standard Vengeance K70 is around 119$ so it should be less than 150$ for it else. Apart from that its cherry MX which is pretty good.

Cooler Master has come up with something new. Here is the link.

Be ready for adjusting though.

In the LASER department, your options are,

  • LOGITECH G500
  • Corsair Vengeance M65
  • Roccat Kone Core Edition
  • SteelSeries Sensei Raw

I doubt it would be very expensive. Recently they released a new version of K40 with RGB rubber dome keys which costs around 80$. The standard Vengeance K70 is around 119$ so it should be less than 150$ for it else. Apart from that its cherry MX which is pretty good.

Don't use direct price conversion for PC products in India. ~$120 itself equates to ~7px-Indian_Rupee_symbol.svg.png6150 but the on-street cost of the Vengeance K70 in India is ~8000/-. Assuming that this new multi-lighting system has its own cost factored you are looking at this selling for ~7px-Indian_Rupee_symbol.svg.png9000/-.

That itself puts it ahead of the cost vis-á-vis Cooler Master STORM Trigger which is the closest competitor to it.

So I would think about the price-tag a little before committing to the product, also, this might sound preachy but that 16.8 million colour functionality novelty will wear of very soon.

Any reason why you suggested FX 6300 over FX 8320 ?

Cheaper, lesser number of cores (to be wasted), if I am not mistaken a lot tighter on the power consumption as well.

Here is an Anandtech FX-6300 and Core i3 benchmark.

I am interested in buying a PC. I would like to set-up a PC that can run all the games at medium/high settings(30-45 fps) for next 12-16 months.

I have already selected the hardware and would like to know your suggestions on better value for money and compatibility of the hardware.

1. AMD FX-Series FX 8350 8-Core 4.0 - 4.2 Ghz Processor

2. Asus Radeon R9 270X 2GB DDR5 ATI PCI E Graphics Card

3. Corsair VS Series VS650 650W High Performance Power Supply (CP-9020051-WW)

4.MSI 970A-G43 32GB DDR3 AMD Motherboard

5.G.skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Desktop RAM (F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR)

I already own a hard drive and a monitor. My budget for the rest of the parts is 45k - 50k, and as per theitdepot this build is costing me around 49k.
