If I was looking to upgrade, I would hold on till Broadwell -Devil's Canyon is really tasty only if you want to overclock a lot ( Not saying its bad though - i7-4790K looks tempting). And you don't need Z97 for it - most Z87 boards will get firmware updates to support this.

Sound advice if only the person in question has a pc currently, else if you are purchasing one in the near future, Devil's Canyon is the best bet coupled with a Z97 board.

DDR4 prices will be high initially for sure - they will come down only after a year or so. Won't make a lot of sense to go for it unless you do a lot of video/photo editing.

Yes, I remember purchasing DDR3 RAM for a premium before it dropped in price between 2011 -->12, only to go up again last year.

So when will DDR4 memory start shipping again? Will it make it to Black Friday?

It is not out for general consumer production.

I think only the latest Intel server line supports DDR4 as of speaking, if I am not mistaken.

Won't the next line of Intel motherboards support them, or am I recalling imaginary things?

Broadwell would be the first consumer processor from Intel to support DDR4 memory.

Latest ones aren't always the most stable ones.

Then get one preceding that, although you might have lowered performance in the latest releases then.

Hey guys, bought this config about 5 years ago (6th May 2009). Honestly speaking, I am currently not too gaming oriented. I play small games and some action adventures.. Was wondering how many more years will this config serve me.

Biostar TA790GX 128M
Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition
2 * Transcend DDR2 2 GB 800 Mhz

Palit HD 4850 Special Sonic DDR5

I feel like I am crawling out of my rock now. So can someone share a good place to discuss pc related stuff in detail (in or out of this forum) :)

What kind of titles do you play (their names). All depends on that.

Is it better to buy R9 280x or wait for nvidia 8xx release for Witcher 3 ? I have a 560ti currently .

Hold off a purchase till as close to the game release as possible. Get the next family of cards if possible. If the price is prohibitive, consider your options then.

Assassin's. Creed.. Yet to play 3 n 4. Looking forward to batman ak. Played city with no problem. Most indies and platformers like limbo n pac man

For indies and other games of that graphical calibre your PC is tip-top. For Assassin's Creeds latest iterations, you will need to do a comprehensive refit and upgrade.

Does simple copy paste works for backing up origin games? M thinking to take a back up of NFS Rivals as I'll uninstall the game.

Copy the entire sub-folder under ORIGIN Games to be 100% sure. If the game does not support game saves sync, then you shall lose all your progress.

Yes, it supports that. Be careful while re-installing, you need to start+pause the download, and then replace the folder. If folder exists and you start download in Origin, the folder gets deleted.

So my rig is complete :D

I'm going to post pictures soon, but right now my immediate concern is the damn ups.

I had to buy a 750 watt PSU as the R9 290 was refusing to run on seasonic 660 bronze certified. And I am buying a ups only for a 2 sec interim period when the light goes of and the backup generator takes it back on.

Besides this, it will take a while for this ups to come. Should I not use the pc entirely until it comes. Or can I risk it?

If your PC is under heavy load in that short duration, there is a high probability that it will trip and reset. Thereby your system will also be affected.

Which 750W SMPS did you purchase?
