Ph3N0M
Bought a Western Digital 1TB Hard Drive from someone(Daredevil) in the forum(he actually sent me his Erodov thread for the sale). That was actually a sealed piece sent by WD after the seller had RMA's his earlier defective drive. It seems that the new drive is DOA, and I can't seem to detect it through anything on Windows or Ubuntu LiveDisc, though it does get detected sometimes in BIOS. I have tried using all the cables that I have(including ones that I know are working). I also managed to read some error message like the following when Ubuntu LiveDisc was trying to boot(this message kept repeating many times): ata5: link is slow to respond, please be patient (ready=0) COMRESET failed (errno=16) The seller is not agreeing to return the drive as I didn't check the drive immediately after receiving it(I received it on Friday evening, but got time to check it today only ). He instead is asking me to RMA it myself, as this one is in limited warranty till September 27th. I actually am leaving for Bangalore tonight, and needed a hard drive before that to free up space on an external hard drive that I'll be using there. As such, I'll now have to buy a new external HDD once I reach Bangalore, and so the RMA is not very useful in my situation, as I won't need any other storage after buying a new external. I tried explaining this, but the seller didn't relent on the issue of me not telling him about this when I received the HDD on Friday(maybe I should have made a video of me opening the package and trying to get this HDD to work, sigh) . Now that the background details are out of the way, does WD always pick up the faulty hard drives for RMA? If so, do I have to pack it well or they do the packing also? And can I assign a different address for delivery(other than the pick-up address, which for me will probably be in Bangalore)? I searched that their service center is only in Bangalore anyway. Can I drop the HDD there personally? Please reply soon as I'll be leaving for Bangalore in a couple of hours. The RMA'd drive will go in the home computer in Patna. Right now, I have two options: either to give the drive to my father, who is fortunately with me right now, and ask him to RMA it in Patna(it will be a bit difficult for him as he is not experienced with these things), or RMA it myself in Bangalore(the second option being inconvenient only if I can't assign a delivery address of Patna in that case). Contact Western Digital India on the following numbers, Toll Free Number: 1800 200 5789 Delhi: (011) – 46521468. Bangalore: (080) – 42434112Hyderabad: (040) – 6617829 Chennai: (044) – 424148439 Find out what is the best way to deal with the situation and if the hard-drive can be picked up from your residence in Patna and then the replacement delivered to you in Bangalore or will the correspondence and delivery address have to be the same. Just keep the cable, the drive and a small card-board box handy. As far as I am aware the handling and logistics is very competent from their side. Hope this helps, Cheerio! P.S. -- If it is not possible for Western Digital to pick the drive from Patna, ask them how long will it take them to get a replacement and if you can get the entire affair sorted out in the time you spend in Bangalore it would be great.
Ph3N0M
I will reach Bangalore by train on 18th morning(so no net tonight and tomorrow in train). I'm taking the HDD with me now, and will try to get it all sorted out during my stay(till 27th) if possible(I heard on the net that the replacement comes within 3 days, is that correct?). ALPHA17
Generally try to keep the VA rating twice of your estimated power draw. So if your PC takes in ~400W of power, get a 700VA+ piece. Brands I would recommend are APC, MicroTek and that is about it. Find out your power draw from here, and add ~40W -->50W for the monitor. ZooZoo
Ise there any way to tell whether someone has swapped the inside parts of a ps3 or not? I sold my ps3 to a guy but he claimed that it was dead on arrival. He said he will try to get it repaired and I have to pay for it. I agreed. After one week when he couldn't get it repaired he said he'll ship it back. I checked his number on true caller and it came as some game parlour. Now I really suspect that he has used my ps3 to get his old ps3 repaired somehow. So the question us, before I refund his money, is there any way to get out checked? Does Sony puts some id on internals which can be matched with external id on ps3?
ALPHA17
^ Short of you knowing the S/N of the motherboard of the PlayStation 3 and the hard-drive you sent with it, no.
Ethan Hunt
Did you open the PS3 ever ? Maybe the warranty sticker will help you.
varundbest
^^ if he got it repaired, warranty sticker is history. @zoozoo You can open and see if all the parts are atleast present. My ps3 came with Toshiba hdd. And look for any mishandling and stuff.
ZooZoo
Thanks for the suggestions. Will do that definitely. If something happened to PS3 during transit and its really not working then I'd obviosuly refund his money but I need to make sure that I dont get screwed over.
