if i want to build a gaming pc from scratch where can i get good deals for parts and good parts in general in India cause even though i have read build a pc guides I sill haven't managed to find parts online.

Where are you based? If you are in a major metro it would be better to purchase from the local PC market.

Otherwise there are the following sites,

  • flipkart
  • snapdeal
  • Prime ABGB (Bombay based)
  • The IT Depot (Madras based)
  • SMC International (Delhi based)

What do you guys think is better. Explain in any way that you can, games, ease of access, etc.

You are on a PC thread, there is going to be a lot of bias towards the same.

I think whatever suits your temperament and budget is what you should get.

Do you guys know of any game on the pc that could resemble Halo at all.

No. I just played the original HALO Combat Evolved and after that MicroSoft pretty much decided to stop doing anything for PC gaming.

There are other titles on PC that you may or may not enjoy.

If you think that its a good idea to switch to pc gaming do you think i should build it myself or buy a pc and keep upgrading.

Assemble a PC and keep upgrading in a three year plan. Should keep you ahead of the console curve.

If i go on to start my gaming channel what kind of vids would you like to see. Tips and tricks, montages ,all out shits and giggles and what games in particular.

That is something you have to decide although let me warn you that aspect of the internet is saturated.

For PC build, what is your budget?

What genre of games do you play the most?

Any technical experience of building a PC or first time?

Where are you residing currently?

I will be moving to US next week, and am leaving my current system at home. I plan to take the internal SSD and HDD with me to US and install a new OS on a new HDD at home. Eventually when I make a new desktop in US, I want to plug in this SSD and HDD in the new set-up and be able to use my existing windows installation. Can it work this way, or do I have to make a fresh installation? Also, is there anything that I need from my current installation for it to work in the new system?

Should work ... but recommended is a fresh windows install to make sure there are no driver issues.

I have too many things installed on the two drives which is why I don't want to do a fresh install as far as possible. Also what is the process of activating Windows on the new system if I have lost the license key of the original installation? I suppose the key can be accessed somewhere from within the installation.

You can use your SSD. Just go to boot menu and select SSD as primary boot option.

Okay, not so easy.

Are you planning to buy similar motherboard? Intel to Intel is possible. Example: P67 to Z77.

If yes, there are some ways to use old SSD. You'll have to re-install some applications.

If no, you'll have to install fresh.

Also, you need Windows 8 DVD.

It's better to install on new partition and transfer to SSD. 20-25 GB is enough. Or install on thumb drive and later move it to SSD.

Regarding license key, use Belarc to see your license code.

So I build a new desktop, instead of buying any storage media, use my current SSD and HDD when booting the new system for the first time(while setting it to boot from SSD), and it automatically recognizes this and goes into my usual Windows 8 desktop that I have been using? Is it that simple? If so, it seems I won't even need to find out the license key beforehand. So no need to check/do anything on my current system before removing the HDD and SSD for good?

Can someone please confirm this? I have to install the new OS tonight or tomorrow morning, and won't be able to access my earlier drives after that. So please let me know if I need to do anything else before this step.

If you are not formatting any of the drives, it would not go into an install mode. It would, ideally, just boot up and then you would just need to install fresh drivers.

I know I said gaming mouse earlier but I just realized budget is super tight. Thinking of getting a normal pc mouse instead of a gaming one. Any recos?

Any LOGITECH / MicroSoft basic mouse would do fine.

Ok, so removing the drives today without doing anything except finding out the windows serial key for possible future reference. Good to go? BTW, do you know any about any precautions I should take while carrying hard drives on flights? Besides this SSD and HDD, I'll carry 2 external hard drives with me.

Yes.

Once you load everything up in the US, do a format if some driver / application / programme causes you issue. But 8 /10 chances, just doing clean driver installs on the fresh build should keep you going no problems.

Carry all drives in hand / person. Keep internals in anti-static package material and sandwich it between clothing or any similar cushioning material so that any impacts / falls are absorbed.

Pack them well in bubble wrap and polyethene cover (to avoid moisture seeping in). As CC says, may not be allowed in hand baggage so keep that in mind.

I don't think they let you carry HDD in cabin especially on US flights, unless its part of laptop. Even then sometimes they'll tell you to turn it on just in case.

Do they ask to turn it on even if it is in the main luggage? In general, how much inspection is done for the contents of the main luggage? I have several spices, a monitor, and some cooking utensils/tools in the luggage alongwith usual cloths and books. I will also carry PS3 in the hand baggage.
