okay ...wont store on dropbox...i thought it will be faster with some new kinda of technology but it still same .

Technology has advanced. We have 100-1000 MB ports. You have to advance and get better internet. Also, technology can only increase speed and add new methods, but it'll take same equal amount of bandwidth.

(i.e, size transferred = bandwidth used)

Thanks will do the partition...btw is exfat same as fat32?? i tried to rightclik and do quick format but it did not show fat32 but exfat .

exFAT is the successor of the old FAT32 file system. Since you can't create a FAT32 partition greater than 32 gigabytes (GB) or store a file larger than 4 GB on a FAT32 partition, you have exFAT option, you don't have FAT32 option.

Try running the command "format x: /fs:fat32". It should do the job.

Isn't USB 3 capable of 5gb. Its this one

it even mentions it: Experience blazing speeds with the USB 3.0 interface that lets you transfer data at up to 5 Gbps while the USB 2.0 interface transfers data at a maximum of 480 Mbps.

It's not your write/read speed. It's max USB 3.0 bitrate (5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s)) one can achieve. Samsung SSD 850 Pro has 550/520 MB/s write/read speed.

Your max write speed will be 70-75 MB/s.

Will ps3 recognize exfat?? any idea...

also about write read speed...click on the link...it clearly mentions as one of the features of this particular hdd.

  • 5 Gbps
    USB 3.0
  • 480 Mbps
    USB 2.0

5 Gbit/s (which is 625 MB/s) is USB 3.0's bitrate. That's how you market. You can't achieve that amount of speed with HDD.

Your drive RPM is 5400. So max 70-75 MB/s.

Will ps3 recognize exfat?? any idea...

No. You need FAT32. Use run command or 3rd party software to make partition.

I also need to format about 250gb file in fat32 ..because PS3 does not read ntfs file...how do i make just 250gb fat 32 out of 931 gb??

That is the theoretical peak performance of the drive. Generally because of real life being what it is, this gets reduced to nominal rates of ~50-150 MB/s dependent on the situation and interfaces used and the performance of individual components of the system .

Will ps3 recognize exfat?? any idea...

Higher chances of that not happening.

Anyway, why do you want to format the device with FAT32 file-system. Makes the whole purchase moot.

Same thing happened to me. Raise a ticket on the WD support site. Send a copy of your bill and a couple of photos of the drive to wdexpress.india@wdc.com along with the case number. They'll take a few days but will update the warranty according to your bill's date.

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Service and Support. My name is Jyotirmoy.

To get your warranty updated, kindly send mail with the incident number (i.e. mail case number) to wdexpress.india@wdc.com along with the Serial number, Model number, and the Date of Purchase.

Your attachments to the email should be:

1. A scan copy of the receipt of purchase bill.

2. Send the drive photograph along with the label.

Note: The attachments should be in jpg format and file size should be less than 10MB, all combined.

The update will take the maximum of 48 business hours.

Sincerely,

WD Provides on-the-door service? COOL, never buying any other drive ever.

Yea. Basically they ask you to pack it and the guy comes and takes it...after 2 weeks -3weeks ...he will come and give you the replaced drive.

Btw they send you email on how to pack it and its quite demanding ....... i mean the box size ...thermocal etc etc.

What label?? i mean i have to hook it to my computer and take the screenshot of the drive label name or if not it then what label??

@Playstation : You should get 100-120 MB/s in USB3 port.

Will try again but yesterday i noticed only 40mbs that was one usb 2.0 though...will try usb 3. which is at the back of the pc.

You can pick it up from ebay for 300-400 Rs.

Can you please give a link...i was once looking for it on ebay and was getting prices as crazy as Rs 4000 .
