HI Guys

I finally managed to go to a store and talk to the guys there.

This is what they sent over:

My plan is to finalize a build by the next weekend and place the order. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I would advise a couple of changes to this build,

For processor and motherboard I would look at Skylake or the sixth generation of Intel processor(s) and associated chipsets,

Intel Core i5 6600k

ASUS H170 GAMING PRO (or equivalent board)

8GB x1 Kingston / Corsair / G.Skill DDR4 performance RAM (~2133MHz stick should be good, add another stick about six months down the line)

MSi Twin Frozr / ASUS STRIX / GIGABYTE GTX970

Seasonic M12 520W should be more than enough for this build, alternately you can add a bit more funds and go for the ~620W variant of the same PSU

For chassis, you can go for the NZXT S340 or Corsair Carbide 400R.

Rest specifications look cool to me. Let me know what your budget so we can help you better. Cheers!

Hey! Dont go recommending it....Why?..Why?...Because I have it :P

On a side note: It doesnt have Optical disc drive, plus it will be hard to find the exact version to your liking.

Extras: Cooler master N600

Why are you recommending Intel's unlocked CPu when he is buying H170? Buy either 6600k (for Z170) or 6500(for H170) [6500 n 6600, there is hardly any difference, still check out on internet]

I didnt like Asus H170 Gaming Pro because of the following reasons (vs Gigabyte H170 Gaming 3 (Rs. 13k)and MSI H170 Gaming M3 (Rs. 12k))

1. They havnt mentioned their SATA Express speed. (Gigabyte varient offers 2*16GBps, while MSI gives 1*10GBps)

2. 110% resistant durable Capacitors. ( MSi offers Class 5 military grade (top notch) and Gigabyte states Ultra durable)

3. Game First III LAN (MSI gives Killer 2400 LAN while Giga has Killer 2201; never heard of game first 3)

4. No mettalic PCIe guard (Giga and MSI both give metal guard for Graphics card)

5. M2 Port 32GBps (while giga offers 32GBps two M2 ports)

6. USb 3.0 (MSi offers 3.1)

7. USB 3.1 Type A&C (The only thing others dont have, the only bonus point)

8. Rs 14.5k. Like seriously? For what?

Cooler Master N600 is EoL sadly. Great, great chassis.

Intel unlocked CPU, because it has a 200MHz bump in speed for a minor increment in price, which is worth it because he would not be over-clocking at a later date.

I find most of the stuff that you listed in that marketing fluff, especially USB 3.1 (no compatible equipment right now and made redundant by Type A / C socket on the ASUS board. Killer Network LAN can be worse performing than that default Intel Gigabit NiC.

Most solid polymer caps are of a certain quality and again any brand slogans is just posturing for marketing purposes.

Local stores are charging like 10k here :(

Where is here?

Budget is ~80-90k

But why 6600k and not 6600? I am really not interested in overclocking and stuff.

Does DDR4 RAM give any noticeable performance boost over DDR3?

Both M12 and S12 are bronze certified. Any reason to go for M12 over S12?

NZXT S340 does not have any space for an optical drive. I have some old PC games on disks that I wont be able to play with this case.

but that page takes on in an ideal environment. They didnt include when other softwares try to screw with the easily available internet. However I do agree, Killer doesnt work for everyone and is a very optional thing.

MSI exclusively state their caps value, 5k caps. The point is, why is Asus hiding the values, same goes for gigabyte. (They dont hide the values when describing high end motherboards)

Budget is good enough. The only money problem is that your local store is charging extra, you can bargain a couple of thousands (over final price).

DDR4 is 2133MHz, DDR3 is 1600MHz, not much of a difference in gaming, othrwise it is a worthwhile investment. Also, why pay equivalent for Haswel CPu (i5 4000 series) when you got skylake (i5 6000 series), future proof too (I m not knowledgable enough to give you an exact rundown aside from the fact that it boasts better performance, better energy efficiency).

S340- You will have to buy an external optical disc drive to play disc games (costs Rs1600). Not worth the hassle. Also, installing old Windows 7 or 8.1 can be a hassle. There are so many options available, search at amazon...Find few which appeal to you visually then ask :) Even if N600 EoL, its a chassis, who cares about sevice center issues (Max problem might be a fan, which will be easily replaced).

Edit: Phantom 240 is good too

Installing windows won't be a hassle. I've never had a DVD drive with my build. He can download the Windows ISO and create a bootable USB. Plug it in, set USB boot in bios, and BAM! you've got Windows installation via USB :D

Of course, he'll have to download the Windows ISO and create bootable USB on a friend's PC :P But yeah, if you can do that, then no need for drive :)

And BAM! You missed the point where we arnt talking about neither USB 2.0 nor Z97 chipset nor new Windows OS

Edit: I think I came out pretty rude. I stated before, might have problems with Old Windows 7 or 8.1. High end 170 chipsets only have USB 3.0 and old Win varients dont have USB 3.0 pre-installed drivers. The BIOS will read input from USB 3 and Win will be installed, but after that? How are you going to get Win OS to read input from USB 3.0? I spent 12hrs, not installing WinOS, rather getting WinOS read the pd so that I can instal the USB 3.0 drivers.

Because the 6600k has a ~200MHz bump right out the box and since you will not be over-clocking it will come handy for consistent performance later down the line.

No perceptible boost in performance as such over DDR3, but going forward it will become the industry standard and will be available cheaper than DDR3, ancillary benefits are lower power consumption and higher FSB.

The M12 line is a modular PSU series. The main reason to go for one is because it allows for better cable management (by not putting in the cables you do not require).

Okay, in-case the NZXT S340 is not to your liking, you can always look at the,

  • NZXT Phantom 410
  • Cooler Master 693
  • Corsair Carbide 400R
  • Antec GX900

Hope this helps, Cheers!

P.S. -- As stated by Draca. Try to bargain a little with the shopkeeper because the prices are on the higher end of the spectrum, which shop you going to?

but that page takes on in an ideal environment. They didnt include when other softwares try to screw with the easily available internet. However I do agree, Killer doesnt work for everyone and is a very optional thing.

Killer is not as great as it is presented to be . 90% of the time standard performance will be normal across both NiCs.

Because that is what marketing is all about, stating what we have and others supposedly do not. MSI boards also have an RGB strip on them, which ASUS boards do not. =/

Point is, if you will look at the performance of both boards, you will see it be at par, the only deciding factor is your personal choice and whether you like one colour scheme over the other and marketing fluff. The only boards really pushing something unique are the SABERTOOTH line from ASUS.

Thanks. I will go back to the shop and see what prices he is quoting for the stuff you mentioned.,

I am going to HavokNation, Pune. It is close to my office, so thought of going there.

Also, a stupid question - Do desktop motherboards have inbuilt wifi and bluetooth like laptops?

Not all.. But some of them do have it.. However its not that much fuss to get wifi on a desktop.. there are a lot of small usb dongles available which do the job..

That's okay bro. I can understand the frustration :) But once you have an OS installed, why don't you just connect to the internet and install all the Windows updates? Wouldn't that install the USB 3.0 drivers?

I could tell you to mount the Driver CD ISO, but since you said you can't even get Win OS to read the damn pen drive, I guess that option is out the window :P

Anyways, maybe am missing something since I've never had a chance to play around with high-end 170 chipset mobos :)

Bluetooth is very rare.

Wi-Fi you get on some on the more expensive variants.

Lol...same question I asked the store :P There are 2 pen drives available, 150Mbps and 300Mbps, former one is Rs. 700. Didnt buy yet because I have to browse online to cross check the specs. This time when you ask them, be bold for a discount, check out their response and dont go empty handed, take Amazon and primeabgb prices with you.

Its okay, I got way over my head. A) I dont have LAN internet B ) Even LAN needs drivers, which were on the mobo's CD.

What printer are you guys using? My old one crapped out after years of service.

Need a new one. Wireless. Dont print a lot (100-200 pages a month, maximum) and when I do its mostly black and white stuff. Looking to spend a maximum of 7k on it. Needs to have a print and scan option to Android devices. Was looking at an HP 4535, anyone else has experience with Canon stuff and their service?

^ We have a HP Deskjet 2050a or something, does not have the Cloud Print capability but everything else is intact.

The only problem with the new printers is their printout capacity is worse than a M1A2 Abrams mileage.
