But 3500 ain't bad either if gaming is sole focus. Plus, with 550M, you can upgrade to 56xx later when available at decent price.

I wanted to get the Zen 3 (5500/5600), but looking at the processor prices in India, I'm pretty sure its going launch at a high price. Hence decided to get a B550 motherboard (for future upgrade to zen3 or 4) + a vfm Zen 2 for now. Current socket won't support Zen 4.

Then going for B550 is not really that much of a future proof option. I could well go with a B450 and 3600 and be done with it. As the combo will be cheaper or same, but with a better cpu. Also, the 970 evo SSD is pcie 3.0, there is no benefit of getting a B550(pcie 4.0), unless until you surely want to upgrade to zen3. This is getting harder Edited October 28, 2020 by Ram Dante

Can't really future proof motherboards nor you need to upgrade CPU for next 5 years at least. B450 and B550 almost cost the same these days. Try 3600/x whichever cheaper and available. B450/x470 will also support Zen 3 but only after Jan, 2021.

As an owner of Ryzen 1600 does it make sense to update to Zen 3 with a 5600 or can the cpu last sometime longer if I am targeting gaming at 1440p? Also if I upgrade I have to update the cpu and motherboard both as selling just the cpu without the motherboard is a huge pain. Not even announced. 5600x will cost $300+ and even more once low stock/scalping starts. 3600 and 5600x aren't in same price bracket. Get 3600 if you want it "now" and have fixed budget. Get 5600x next week if you have bigger budget than 3600. Get 5600 if you can wait for few more months (3-5 months at least). I think it will cost slightly more than 3600/x (~$220 ish) but will be a better upgrade. If 1600 is working fine for you, then there is no reason to rush and upgrade your CPU. Even less if you are capped at 60fps.

I think your 1600 should be ok. I suggest looking at benchmark videos just to be sure though. imo only upgrade cpu when it starts throtling. otherwise not worth it. you get tiny gains compared to, say a gpu upgrade. WR10
Need suggestions for a 1440p monitor in 20-25k range. Not looking for high refresh rates. Primary needs are - IPS panel, in-built speakers.
STICK3Rboy
Now that the Ryzen 3600 doesn't seem to be available anywhere, would it be wise to go for the 3600xt at 22.5K instead? Also, which mobo would be good for it in a budget of around 10-11K?

You need to get Z490 which are not super expensive now. See how much it costs you for 10400F + Z490 (MSI/ASRock/ASUS) vs. AMD 3600X + MSI B550M Mortar

Think I'll go with the 10400F combo. This should last me at least 5 years right? Also, do you think a Seasonic M12ii 620W PSU will be fine for the above combo plus the below components? 3070 GPU 2x8GB DDR4 RAM 1x1TB SSD 1x1TB HDD 1x500GB HDD Checked a calculator online and it gave me a 466W score. If you don't care about that, you can check cheaper B460/H410 boards. RAM will be locked at 2666 Mhz. Z490 cheap but good (since can't OC 10400F, these are fine choices on budget): Asus Prime Z490-P MSI Z490-A Pro Gigabyte Z490 UD Asrock Z490 Pro4 Asrock Z490 Phantom Gaming 4 If price difference between Phantom Gaming 4 and other boards is within budget, I would go for any of other 4 boards. 13 minutes ago, STICK3Rboy said: Also, do you think a Seasonic M12ii 620W PSU will be fine for the above combo plus the below components? 3070 GPU 2x8GB DDR4 RAM 1x1TB SSD 1x1TB HDD 1x500GB HDD Yes, 620W is fine for those specs.
