Recommended Posts

Ok so my cooler master power supply died & i need help here are my PC Specs:

Intel Core2Duo E8400 3Ghz

2GB DDR2 Ram
Nvidia 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 Graphic Card
500GB Hard Drive
18.5 inch LED monitor

MSI P35 Platinum Cmbo Motherboard

My graphic card requires a minimum of 400v power supply, so i have picked this Corsair

model can anyone just tell me if it would be compatible or not, it seems decent with price & Corsair is good for gaming right

Here was my older model

http://www.coolermaster.com/product/Detail/powersupply/extreme/extreme-power-plus-600w.html

Some local shops told me to get Circle or VIP Power Supples but i am not sure they can handle games like super street fighter 4 AE on high or Skyrim on medium & use of photoshop, illustreator etc

It would be great if someone tells me how the Corsair stacks up against my old cooler master model, does it have all wires that the old one had for required PC Connections

Thanks please reply soon :)

^^ Will you be upgrading this RIG sooner or later?

Also, what is your budget for this purchase?

I would suggest the following SMPS,

  • Cooler Master GX450W (minimum, anything below this is not worth the price)
  • Seasonic S12II 430W (reasonably balanced and efficient entry-level SMPS, restrictive if you want to upgrade down the line)
  • Seasonic S12II 520W (Seasonic is a very well known OEM and still produces some of the finest in Corsair's line-up of SMPS)

The Corsair SMPS that you have short-listed is not good.

Avoid any cheap Indian brands in the SMPS department, in-fact even if you get one free, just throw away the internals (or use them as a cool paper-weight) and use the dabba to store stuff.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

I have a budget of Rs.3500, i will buy a new rig when witcher 3 comes out or late next year, currently i do video convertion in HD on my PC so i was looking for at least 550w to handle the load

No matter what you do with your PC, the sum total power required will not exceed the maximum Total Power Draw of all the components. Your current PC will not draw in excess of ~340W, here is the maths.

And your PC can do fine with a 450W SMPS too but if you are willing to invest more now, you can go for a ~520W -->650W Seasonic SMPS (modular / non-modular up-to you) and carry on with the same when you upgrade your RIG.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!
