I would now like to concentrate only on Monitor as I am replying to this from my work. :)

3D or no 3D?

Well you know that this is not possible all at once, just one by one every 2-3 months and okay that I will not stick to 3D monitor but suggestions and ideas are always welcome.

Whatever suits your pockets.

As per your suggestions a no 3d would be better choice.

This is just an off topic question :: then would I go for better 3D smart TV after 2 - 3 years :: samsung 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 / panasonic / Sony . Till that time My salary would be increased. :)

Go for any of the following monitors,

  • DELL Ultrasharp U2312M
  • DELL Ultrasharp U2412M
  • ASUS PA238Q
  • AOC i27

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

That can be the case if 3D improves to a point and the standards open up and hopefully becomes affordable too.

My office replaced all the monitors with Viewsonic 23"IPS LEDs...a huge improvement over the previous ones. Are these any good for gaming? (Hopefully my post is not OT!)

It is not OT but why are you putting in this thread?

Also, what is the model number of the monitor in question. Post it in the PC thread / Gaming thread.

I think I'm using the model you mentioned. AOC e2352phz 3D. Yes it is not so impressive in 2 D but that is not a big concern. It is the 3D where it really shines. Saw Transformer The Dark of Moon couple of days back on it and it was awesome. Actually it was a better experience than i had at Cinepolis 3D when i saw it couple of years back ;)
If you are getting it for 3D gaming and not interested in movies then i suggest oyu to get a 2D monitor. Tried a couple of games in 3D and experience was "meh". Killzone 3 gave me a headache, Topspin 4 always had something out of focus, Crysis 2 was pretty decent , Alan Wake was decent but occasionaly something would be out of focus. So IMO, 3D is a bit gimmicky for gaming at the moment. It has improved a lot for movies but in games it feels like a afterthought added to the game just to increase the features.

As far as passive vs active is concerned. I'd always recommend passive over active. Passive glasses are cheaper, way lighter, doesnt require charging, no additional hardware or nvidia kit required and I can't stand the frequent fluttering that active glasses have. So if your budget allows then get the LG Cinema 3D monitor else give AOC a go if you wanna try 3D. Watchign movies in 3D is indeed an immersive experience. Don't know about the current prices but i got mine from M.G Road Bangalore for 14.5K
