I am looking to buy a new widescreen LCD monitor in the 20 - 24 inch size range.

I have seen many models from LG, Samsung, Viewsonic, etc.

The special features I'm looking for are:

1) HDCP compliant DVI input

2) Multiple AV inputs including VGA, DVI, Component, Composite, HDMI

3) Minimum resolution 1680x1050. Preferred resolution 1920x1200

4) Wall mountable

5) Response time should not be more than 5 ms.

Any suggestions ??

You can go for Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP. :P It's a 24 inch LCD monitor.

Here are the features of the monitor.

- Max Resolution : 1920 x 1200

- It supports DVI-D, VGA, RGB, S-Video, Component and Composite Inputs

- Contrast Ratio : 1000 : 1

- It has a response time of 6 MS.

I THINK this baby goes for about 33k now, atleast that's what I remember hearing. Great monitor. :O

Here is CNET's review in case if you're curious to know more.

Are you talking about the E228WFP, lastAvenger? If so, that monitor only supports 1680 x 1050, and I think that it doesn't have component inputs. :O I may be wrong though, but I'm definately sure that the 2407WFP has component. :P

Yup. the 22" It doesn't have component. But the 2407WFP doesn't have HDMI.

*sigh*

I guess I cant have everything.

Dell's website lists this monitor for 40,000/- Where can I get it for 33,000/- ?

Hmm, there was a member on Techenclave, a person by the name of Raghunadan, who was selling the monitor (along with other Dell Monitors) with 5 year warranty honored by Dell India. New ones at that. Not second hand. If you can go and check there, it'd be nice, but I don't know if he's still selling them at the reduced price or not. :(

Here is the thread. :D

Regardless, happy shopping! :(:P

wats the diff between HDMI and HDCP?

peace

HDMI is the connection interface. So instead of VGA or components cables you will connect your video output device to the display device using the HDMI interface and HDMI cables. It is fully digital in nature and is capable of carrying video and audio data.

Think of HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) as a content scrambler. The paranoid pricks at Hollywood feel that HD content will encourage even more piracy and demanded a second layer of DRM in addition to the DRM on the content media itself (the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray disc's inbuilt DRM algorithms). So display manufacturers like Philips came up with HDCP. In order to view HD-DVD abd Blu-Ray content in full 1080p, you will require a HDCP capable layer as well as a HDCP compliant display device like a monitor or a LCD/Plasma TV. Without that you will only be able to view the content in Standard Definition.

HDCP can be implemented over DVI or HDMI.

For example, the popular Viewsonic range of 19" and above widescreen LCD monitors have DVI ports but are not HDCP compliant. The new Dell, Samsung and LG widescreen monitors are HDCP compliant.

Hey guys,

I'm also looking for buying a good 'screen'.

1. What do you guys recommend? A "Monitor"? or a LCD TV?

2. My X360 console is not the 'new' one which has HDMI. So this means, all I have is the Component Video output that you get in the "HD cable" pack. Given this is merely component video, will this mean I won't be able to play my games in true HD (720p/1080p/etc.,.)? I'm highly confused.

3. Given point#2 above, will it mean I won't be able to watch movies on my X360 in true HD?

4. I also want to be able to watch regular analog cable TV on the screen.

I've also noticed at several X360 kiosks that the LCD TV that they connect to seems to have really bad anti-aliasing. There is heavy pixelation and 'step effect'. I'm like dead sure they are doing something wrong (like, not using the HD cable and hence display is totally bad at 480p). Am I right? How 'good' is HD gaming on LCD TVs?

hey guys i've a SONY 21 " WEGA MULTISYSTEM and am able to connect the RGB and audio RW pins on the back, but my TV set is not a HD enabled one, i think those pins are for DVD component but nevertheless my 360 runs fine when the above pins are inserted.. so is it possible for me to hav a HD output??

(sorry for noob ques cuz i am one regarding display settings :wallbash: )

Your TV just has 'component video'. While component video is better than the two-cable video input (a lot of encoding losses that happen in regular two-cable inputs don't happen with CVI), it is still has no HD. So, come with me and read the LCD vs Plasma thread and start planning your next budget! :)
