1.) Creatures Have A Varying Degree of Hostility

It’s quite common for creatures in games to simply just run at the player as soon as they spot them. Not so in SOMA. Here, some creatures might just stand and stare at you for a while. Others will ignore you until you disturb them. Some might not be dangerous at all — or at least, not in a dangerous mood right now.

It seems game does have some performance issue - http://steamcommunity.com/app/282140/discussions/

General performance advice
Gathered so far to minimize risk of game not performing as intended:

- Leave LimitFPS active in the settings file if you have modified it manually of be disabled.
- Make sure that screen is 60 hz, and refresh rate in game options set to 60.
- Use vsync in game, not in control panel for card. Possibly use adaptive vsync in game to avoid dips from 60 to 30, but still maintain near tear free screen.
- Nvidia: make sure shader cache and threaded optimization is OFF in nvidia control panel. Also render ahead to 1 frame might further help (not 100% verified).

Hopefully today there will be a patch that might help further improve performance. (And fix so game works with 144hz)

General information about game performance: Lowering resolution will have a much higher impact on the performance, compared to lowering settings. Running at 720p will perform bettrer with higher settings, compared to running in 1080p with lower settings.

Lowering refresh rate in game options to 30 can make the game more stable on low end setups.

Howz the game?

Played the game for like 2hr and its scary as f**k. Mysterious storyline just like evil within, you don't know exactly what is going on.

PC Performance issue - When you first enter a new room/area FPS will tank as if its loading the assets/texture streaming issue after 2-3 min FPS will become normal i.e. 60FPS a bit annoying issue and this issue will happen irrespective of the ingame setting. A patch has been released will report later if this issue has been fixed.

Edit - The update fixed the performance issue.

Atmosphere is top notch

Enemies will sometime scream randomly(you will sh*t your pant) on screen graphical glitches will appear etc.

The game plays a lot like Alien Isolation and Gone Home.

Each room is very detailed.

Sound(audio design) in this game is amazing.

Just like Alien Isolation you will end up fixing machines and finding alternate routes.

Game is meant to be played with a controller.

  • 3 months later...

Iam having some performance issues with this game in areas where there are too many light sources...System requirements are not that high and still it runs like sh*t in some areas.

Alien Isolation which looks better than Soma runs butter smooth on my PC.

Edit - The update fixed the performance issue.

You are not having performance issues now?
