any place in chennai to get phones in black. I'm interested in the new bold 9780.

Im not sure black, but you can get it in the gray markets. They give you a warranty and bill also for the Bold 9780. However, if your buying a phone that isnt officially released in India, no warranty or bill.

You should try Mayas Plaza or Sri Shakthi Plaza in Pondy Bazar, T.Nagar. They have several mobile phone shops, all of them are very good. Or the usual Spencers, but I hate having to haggle with the people there, they are usually very stubborn, unlike Pondy Bazar.

If you want only from black markets, you should probably check out at Ritchie Street. Thats definitely THE place for Black Markets.

iPhone isn't ruled out. All the things you mentioned is available on the iOS platform too. If you are using google apps, then you get push mail on either device. Plus there are voip apps on iOS as well.

Then again, its your personal preference. I would suggest you take a look at email clients and calendars on both devices and see what works

Yea I know iphone fits perfectly, I used one, it served me good, but android was not there when i bought an iphone. Today, I find the android far more powerful and feature rich, have not used one yet, so not sure about UI, looks same as iOS though. I also hated apple all along for crippling the iOS all along, they add small-small features during firmware upgrades which should have been there in a 30k device from day one. I loved my iphone, love using one, but all the factors made me think of giving the android a serious try.

I did not find the SGS 8gb model anywhere online in India to buy, that should be around 24k (guessing), dont need 16gb really.

^ur statements did apply 1-2 years back. Now iOS 4.2 is at par with with any smartphone OS. iPhone4 itself is quite powerful. And no, the UI of android is still not as slick or polished as iOS. And as regards apps, even now the iOS appstore is much better than the android market. Exchange mail works pretty well on iOS.I own a galaxy s, so I know how samsung screwed up with this phone and the crap I've got to go thru to make it work (It still cant sync my fked up calendar). If there is an android high end phone you should get, it is the Nexus S only. Stay away from the rest which have bloated android and added a bunch of crapware on top of stock android.

Only 16gb model is available in India for 26k i believe. Why bother with SGS, try getting the Nexus S only.

It is available in retail actually. It costs 27k with bill. the old 9700 costs 24-25k so i might as well out 2k more and get this one.

Well now I'm back to the confusion between iOS & android. I dont wanna spend 26k to find out that iOS was better. :wallbash: I use google apps, which should sync with an android device pretty easily ? Syncing up contacts & calendar is pretty important.

I dont know really. I use caldav with google cal. Maybe its a one off issue. I have 4 calendars, only 2 sync :-/. So something is wrong somewhere. Contacts, the worst part is, it syncs your entire google contact list. Which includes every crappy person u've ever sent an email to or chatted with :P. Really weird. Doesnt even give the option to sync with outlook address book or address book in ur PC.

So I just lost my iphone3g *sad*, guess it was time to upgrade.

I got so used to the iphone experience thatI'm in a split ming between iOS and android. I was looking at iphone4, samsung galaxy S or the nexus S. Dont know if there are any other cheaper devices (android) that can do most of the things these 3 models have, suggestions ?

If you are used to the iOS ecosystem,I would advise you not to change to android.

The man speaketh the truth..Dont even look at Galaxy S. It is too much of a headache for a person like you (as you have a business to attend to and this phone requires lot of tweaks.) If you want to go for android, dont take anything other than Nexus S.

Try giving android a spin on someone else's phone. If you are still confused, then go for iPhone 4 as you are already ok with its ecosystem.

Out of your requirements, all things should work equally well on both phones except google maps. Google maps are much better on Android. There are lot of things missing on iPhone in maps (e.g. navigation, places, ratings, layering, voice search, etc) and also it is not clear whether vectorized google maps will come to iPhone or not which is a pretty big deal for maps.

What's caldav? Calendar works fine for me for google calendars as well as exchange.

For the contacts, the problem is with your settings. There are few things to note:

1. The syncing is done with contacts in your gmail with gmail app as well as phone app in mind. So, if you want to send a mail to someone from ur gmail app, you can do that.

2. In the contacts view, you can set it to display only the contacts with phone numbers.

3. I think you get an option to sync which groups you want while setting up I think. You can choose "my contacts" group for this. gmail puts the rest of the "crappy" persons (:P) into a separate group called "other contacts" so you wont need to sync them.

4. Also, there is another setting in gmail to disable automatically moving frequently mailed ppl to your my contacts group. This will resolve your problem completely.

5. You can indeed sync your contacts with outlook address book through. You can even sync contacts from various other places like facebook, twitter, etc.

Shantanu, I keep getting that com.google.process.gapps error. I did the usual clearing data from contacts and calendar storage in running applications and even cleared the data in Google framework services. Still pops up. This may be a reason why I get errors. Caldav is some calendar protocol i use to sync my desktop calendar to Gcal.

probably, but launching a high end phone in this age without HD recording :(

yup, its pretty sad and I too am pretty underwhelmed with the overall nexus s hardware itself

But the thing is that google does not release these phones from the aspect of scorching the market. They are aimed at the developer population to push the android platform forward and in that categoy, hd recording ranks quite low I think. So, they didn't wait to optimize it, I guess.
