The Wolfy among us
Not sure how it works with Z, but with X8 i could root the phone without unlocking the bootloader, an install custom Rom. Also personally with the speeds the hardware has touched and sony UI which is close to stock, i do not feel the need to root. With the Z you need to unlock, then root. Also Aman is right, the Sony firmware (especially the latest) is very good. there's no reason to root. I am currently back on stock Rom too, without root. Bird Bird Bird
It definitely isn't murky. The terms and conditions clearly state that once you unlock the bootloader, the warranty goes for a toss. So even if you relock it, once they figure out that you have unlocked it sometime earlier, they'll throw the T&C in your face. Also, note that the Bravia engine and the DRM keys for using Sony Music are lost after bootloader unlock. But there are ways on XDA to unlock, and keep the keys. Yeah, going through XDA. Bird Bird Bird
So I get that nobody uses TiBu here ? Or GoBackup ? Or Online Nandroid Backup ? Or anything which uses root ?

And you can install CWM without root right? nandroid backup using that? btw, what all do you want to backup?

And you can install CWM without root right? nandroid backup using that? btw, what all do you want to backup? Can you please elaborate the XPERIA ROM backup options ? Are these compatible if say I use a CM10/AOKP ROM after doing the backup on stock ? Helium Backup - Have used it. Not as robust or dependable as TiBu. Lost many of my SMSs while restoring and apps had compatibility issues. Also their play store page says incompatible with Xperia Z (Sony's issue), so dunno whether it would work with the latest ones ! For me, App+ data backup (with TiBu) / Call log + SMSs (+ Wifi access points if possible) with GoBackup. Have tried various other SMS backup apps. None, absolutely none work as good as GoBackup. Also, I use an older version of GoBackup (newer one has issues), so restoring from TiBu is an absolute must.
Bird Bird Bird
Oh, and Nandroid Backup. Yup, can be done from CWM, but with root access, can be backup up without going into recovery. Pretty useful for flasholics.

HarishProGamer
^^ Guys... I wanted to buy a new one, Enough fun I had with Note/Galaxy.... I am waiting for Note 3 but fear that it might be too bulky. So i was thinking of going with this, And the guys here(Bangalore Friends) informed about some problems in performance/ Using multi-Apps. So I kinda wondered as it claims to have the best processor in the market now. Pros:- 1. Awesome Screen with Sony's Inbuilt Bravia Engine 2. Water & Damage Resistant. 3. Fast processor 4. Huge Size (It matters) 5. Classy Built and the slimmest phone yet on the market (Correct me if i am wrong) So for the Cons, I just need your help. Based on Cons, it will be a deciding factor for me whether to go with it or not. Currently using:- Galaxy Note & HTC Desire HD. So overall its worth a purchase, Im asking because I am selling my iPad 3 along with Galaxy Note to get this. Now say, is it worth ? EDIT:- Btw, On Camera... Since I already own a Nikon 5100.. So im not going into that department for any Mobile Phone. Looks, Simply Looks Im focusing with Excellent Processing Power. AtheK
Hmmm i would not do it, you are letting go off two diff ecosystem to get one ecosystem. Galaxy Note is old, but iPad 3 still has lot of juice left in it.

IMO, there's really not much in the mobile arena that Note 1 cannot do (I'm using the same with SlimRom and it's been a smooth sail so far). Plus you obviously get the added advantage of iOS being a tad superior in the quality of apps (only a tad, mind you). Can be used for gaming, reading, music etc. Yes, Ultra can definitely merge these 2, but you'll be stuck with one device, so if it breaks/battery is down (say while traveling), you're in a soup. Galaxy Note is old, but iPad 3 still has lot of juice left in it. Actually in CEX, they tested and said they can take both my iPad and Note, Both are in good condition. Thats why I was tempted. As i have used my iPad 3 like anything but never took that in Public, Either its in my bag pack or @ room or use in my Flight travels, I can't carry that all time with me. But if you have a phone like Xperia Z Ultra, Its such attention seeking phone, Atleast people beside you will have a look at it. I am still on the Fence with this one, Will update you guys about my decision. Anyway kisi ko koi phark nahi padthta. @Bird:- I see. You do have a point. So better i should wait, Lets see what NOTE III brings. Edited September 6, 2013 by GamerOfTheYear
