LG Electronics Inc. (LG) announced that it is closing its mobile business unit. The decision was approved by its board of directors earlier today.

Quote

LG’s strategic decision to exit the incredibly competitive mobile phone sector will enable the company to focus resources in growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and business-to-business solutions, as well as platforms and services.

Current LG phone inventory will continue to be available for sale. LG will provide service support and software updates for customers of existing mobile products for a period of time which will vary by region. LG will work collaboratively with suppliers and business partners throughout the closure of the mobile phone business. Details related to employment will be determined at the local level.

Moving forward, LG will continue to leverage its mobile expertise and develop mobility-related technologies such as 6G to help further strengthen competitiveness in other business areas. Core technologies developed during the two decades of LG’s mobile business operations will also be retained and applied to existing and future products.

The wind down of the mobile phone business is expected to be completed by July 31 although inventory of some existing models may still be available after that.

Yup. Same thing for them too, don't know why they even bothered selling this long. On topic, I don't see HTC in market these days too :fear:

HTC is also screwed from long time, they keep trying to revive but it's a gone case now.

Also, iPhone still sells a lot of their phones without charger, many of my friends bought them the pro at crazy price. I be like

Saala Gajab Topibaaj company hai iPhone. Saala karti kaise hai he ye sab.

Brand pull and also the fact that they actually support the phone long, you can easily drag along an iPhone for 4+ years, which is not so true for majority of androids. Also they sell by bucket loads outside due to carrier subsidized pricing, India they are still pretty low, though they are now focusing.

True that. But still think its more of a status factor among Indians than any other thing. That is why their topibaazi is huge success [emoji14]

Not to say they are bad or anything, their consistency is much appreciated but topibaazi nonetheless [emoji14]

Oh definite topibaz, guess the only company in the world that can pull the same design for four plus years and every year fans think a new model has arrived :roflroll:

Eventually though a new entry in this market is tough, it's ruled by the below and will continue to rule for long time to come

Mi/redmi

Oneplus/oppo/vivo

Samsung

Apple

5 out of 7 are full blown Chinese.

And sell their phones without chargers and sell them separately. As MKBHD mentioned.

Anyway, Yes our choices are getting slimmer day by day. When it comes to choosing a flagship phone, I can't think of anything except Samsung and Oneplus. Asus phones are for niche market. Huawei has problems with Android. Mi phones just don't seem like the phones where you would spend too much money, they are good for budget phones. There is hardly anything from Moto too.

Lets see what the future of smartphone business brings us.
