Pixel takes more true to life images than most other phones. Hence you'll find the pics muted wrt Samsung etc.

You can also try HDR mode to see if it makes a difference.

Face portrait mode is pretty good, but you do see edges sometimes with other objects. I've clicked many pics of my daughters, and edge detection has improved a lot over previous Pixels.

Of course, portrait are all AI magic.

Do use the Photos app editing features to see how you can edit these photos. Some editing features are exclusive to Pixel lineup.

So right out of the phone, the sample shots seem fine to you?

Also I'm not able to find the HDR mode on android 11 (have not updated to 12 yet)

Guys I need some help.

The reason I shifter to pixel 4a is purely due to the camera (and also the size to some extent). I was (and still am using ) the asus rog phone 2.

Now I am yet to migrate fully to the pixel (sim card, account synchronisation etc). However I took some random images from the camera. The images that came out (attached here) feel a bit odd. I have read countless reviews about the camera and have seen hours of video reviews. Some shots shown in those reviews were awe inspiring.

However I don't know if it's me or something really is a bit off in the images. Cant point to what exactly. Maybe the sharpness, dynamic range, the warmth or maybe the camera shoots like this only. Even the portrait mode feels a tad off (wrt edge detection. The background blur feels artificial)

Can you guys compare these images with the ones shot with your (pixel) and let me know if something is actually off in my unit or I'm just overthinking.

Ps- these images are directly from the phone sans any form of post processing. Would the processing improve once I fully set the phone up (thus connecting to the internet) or do I need to get the unit replaced (or maybe this is the way it shoots and I should stop overthinking).

Thanks in advance

Can't comment. Depends on your lighting conditions, focus point etc. You can tap to focus and edit highlights/shadows as well before clicking.

Anyone using esim in india?

I see that both Airtel and JIo are offering this option. Given that Pixel 6 comes with esim slot + nano sim , wondering if someone sources this from the US, will they be able to use it as Dual sim in india. (Assuming, call quality would be good with esim as well)

I use it on my 12 mini. E-sim is jio and porting was a breeze.

Used it on iphone 12 pro max and then moved it to Note 20 ultra. Process is seamless and hardly takes few minutes. First time activation does takes an hour or so but when that is done, you can literally jump between different Esim phones within minutes. All it takes is a sms with your registered email ID, you get a QR code, you scan that with your new phone, that gets the esim and older one gets deactivated.

Pixel 4a also comes with an esim slot. My brother is using it for over a year now. No issues at all.

Like Bird said, they look real but muted compared to, say, a Samsung. Two examples from my phone, one in natural (but not bright) light and one under comparatively brighter artificial light.

Both shots are straight from your phone without edits?

The second shot looks sharp and amazing

That one’s under strong LED lights ?

Yeah lighting is a big factor.

Those shots of mine were taken on a post diwali, heavily polluted delhi morning. That can affect the picture quality I reckon.

So what are your final thoughts on those images? Look fine? Should I slap a screen protector and start using it as my primary? ?

With some practice, look what can be achieved with such a small sensor:

Modded GCam to allow Astro Mode in handheld.

Google AI magic. Of course, a dedicated cam in the hands of the right person will do wonders, but how far have phone cameras come !

Magic Eraser is pure dope. Saw some videos on YouTube and it works flawlessly. Definitely more than a gimmick.
Noob question, what is magic eraser?

In short. It can erase people/objects from the image. You don't need to ask a photoshop expert to do that anymore.

See the youtube videos of just watch MKBHD review of Pixel 6.

Samsung added that feature to their gallery app 6-7 months back for most of their flagships. Don't know why they do not market their features as much as other companies. They just quietly add the features via updates and leave it to user to discover.

How's the implementation ? I doubt Samsung can better Google's photomagic voodoo AI.
