I had updated the latest firmware, long long ago, and the firmware I had downloaded, and the one on the website, are the same.

Secondly, I am not sure I would get enough time to apply the firmware(even if I had one).

It simply reboots within 10-20 secs.

Good suggestion....Power supply may be the culprit.

I brought the router to my office.

The power strip wasn't the problem.

Now am trying to search a replaceable power adapter, else will visit some electricals shop, as time permits.

The router is within warranty - searching for the invoice and also requested the invoice from the purchaser (Flipkart).

The more I google about this issue, the more hopeless it is :(

The same problem had plagued my old modem.. It used to restart once every few seconds.. Tried everything I could before going to the bsnl office, they guided me an expert near by..

The problem was indeed with the power supply.. Got a new adapter and the problem was fixed.. You won't get the very same adapter but one with more or less the same power rating would do the job..

I hope it resolves your problem too..

latest update from today morning:

power supply isnt the problem :(

Connected the ethernet to my laptop; assigned static IP to the laptop ethernet.

pressed reset button for around 20 secs.

The power LED shows red instead of the usual green (usual behavior during reset).

And the LED stayed at red.

This is the recovery mode.

The http://192.168.1.1 on the laptop loads a html where it asks for the software image.

The router stays stable like this without reboot for a long time.

Conclusion: power supply is not the problem.

Provided the latest software image from the DLink website, which it accepted gracefully, and rebooted....and rebooted....and rebooted....and rebooted :pulpfiction:

Back to square 1.
