There were some notable ones however: Jade Empire, the KOTOR series and Fable to name a few. With the advent of the Xbox 360 Microsoft has taken great strides to deliver some truly great RPG experiences on the platform. The Xbox 360 is home to not only the most Western style RPGs but is currently the console of choice for even the JRPG sect of RPGs. One can't deny that Microsoft has truly put forth a great iniciative to diversify the Xbox 360's catalogue of games to make it a great console of choice for the RPG enthusiast. This article is a synopsis of the RPGs that have been released on Xbox 360 as well as a look into the future of the genre on Microsoft's platform. 1) Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures In a world filled with cruel gods, mythical creatures, lost civilizations and a struggling human race, the mighty barbarian has finally seized the throne as king of Aquilonia. But Conan's rule is on the brink of chaos, spiraling towards the doom of ancient evils. In this twisted fantasy world, dark magic and brutal combat lurks around every corner, and each man and woman must carve their own unique destiny under Conan's reign. In the true vision of Robert E. Howard's dark universe it’s now time for you to become a messenger of death. 2) Blue Dragon Famed game producer Hironobu Sakaguchi of Mistwalker game studio and developer Artoon present the highly anticipated Xbox 360-exclusive “Blue Dragon.” Featuring the character design of Akira Toriyama, who designed “Dragon Ball Z,” and music by Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for “Final Fantasy,” “Blue Dragon” is an epic role-playing game (RPG) centered on a young boy named Shu and several of his friends. These unlikely heroes possess miraculous strength and magical power to control phantom shadows that mirror the actions of their masters. 3) Champions Online Champions Online is the latest MMO from the folks at Cryptic Studios. Cryptic is the name behind the popular City of Heroes and City of Villains MMOs. The subject matter of Champions Online? You guessed it: superheroes. 4) Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements Now is the time to undertake this quest and reveal your true destiny. Use combat, magic and stealth to fight demonic enemies as your destiny unfolds. 5) Elveon "Elveon" means "The book of elves" and is based on a comprehensive fantasy saga which goes back to the times of the rise of the advanced Elvish civilization. The gods have left the world of Naon in a rush, it is the place they had wanted to transform into their paradise. The Neamas, the elves of the ancient times and fellows of the gods have remained there all alone. A smouldering conflict is gaining more and more importance and a new era starts which is marked by envy, malevolence and relentless wars that prevent the gods’ descendants from entering upon their inheritance. 6) Enchanted Arms Embark on an epic RPG adventure and escape to a fantasy world filled with beautiful cinematic-quality graphics, unique characters and bizarre creatures. Take on the role of Atsuma, Enchanter in-Training and transform from a naïve student into the most powerful savior in a war 1,000 years in the making. Immerse yourself in a deep storyline as you face increasingly difficult challenges and learn to master Atsuma’s special fighting and magical abilities. 7) Eternal Sonata An RPG for the next generation, Eternal Sonata takes full advantage of the Xbox 360, boasting gorgeous graphics, 3-D character models, and a groundbreaking battle system. The story of Eternal Sonata begins as a famous composer, on his deathbed, drifts between this life and the next. In his reverie, a happenstance encounter of a young girl who accepts her terrible destiny and a young boy fighting to save her, changes the destiny of the world. Uncover the light that shines in each of us in this enduring tale of good and evil. 8) Fable 2 A sequel to the enchanting and engrossing RPG Fable. 9) Fallout 3 Vault 101 – Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec® engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you’ve ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth. 10) Far East of Eden Ziria Set in the fictional, yet distinctly Japanese world of Zipangu, the Tengai Makyo series traces sprawling fantasy storylines, in a pure Japanese role-playing environment. The latest title in the series takes place on the Kyushu-inspired island of Tsukusu, and centers on a love story that develops between the amnesiac title character Namida and the heroine Ichiyo, all the while exploring a wide array of interpersonal relationships, and elements of Japanese folklore. 11) Final Fantasy XI The Final Fantasy series makes it way to Xbox 360 as Final Fantasy XI Online. 12) Huxley Huxley is a massively multiplayer first-person shooter computer game published by Webzen Games Inc. to be released in 2008. It is being developed for both the PC and Xbox 360 with special content being made for each platform. Special content includes a campaign mode for the Xbox 360 only. The Xbox 360 version is planned for release six months after the PC. Huxley will be a cross-platform game. 13) Infinite Undiscovery An exclusive RPG from the respected studio Square Enix, developed in conjunction with Microsoft Game Studios. 14) Lost Odyssey Lost Odyssey is a truly next-generation RPG created by acclaimed artists Takehiko Inoue (Japanese manga creator, made famous by Slam Dunk), Kiyoshi Shigematsu (a famous Japanese novelist) and Nobuo Uematsu (Japanese music composer, known for creating the music for the FINAL FANTASY series of games). The game is produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the original FINAL FANTASY series. Lost Odyssey's storyline takes the player through Kaim's life, a man who has been sentenced to live for 1,000 years. He lives through multiple generations, becomes a part of many families, falls in and out of love and gets into conflicts. All this is set in a world that is on the verge of a mystical industrial revolution, where mankind has attained dark powers. 15) Mass Effect Set 200 years in the future in an epic universe, “Mass Effect” places gamers in a vast galactic community in danger of being conquered by a legendary agent gone rogue. A spectacular new vision from legendary developers BioWare, “Mass Effect” challenges players to lead a squad of freedom fighters as they struggle against threatening armies to restore peace in the land. “Mass Effect” is the first in a trilogy of games with an overarching story, where the real conflict between organic beings and artificial intelligence comes to life in startling clarity. 16) Operation Darkness Operation Darkness is a Strategy/RPG. The most attractive point is its original universe, which is various fictitious factors is added in historical facts. 17) Spectral Force 3 The first of the series to land in the Western hemisphere, Spectral Force 3 delivers challenging strategy RPG gameplay, a classic fantasy story, and tons of character and item customization options! Look for Spectral Force 3 on the Xbox 360. 18) Tales of Vesperia The debut of the Tales series on the Xbox 360, Tales of Vesperia launches the series to new heights of interactive narrative and engrossing gameplay with incredible anime-style graphics, a captivating storyline and characters as well as an upgraded battle system. Set in a world reliant on a mysterious ancient technology known as “blastia,” the game follows former knight Yuri as he delves into a shadowy plot to use these magical devices to control civilization, or destroy it. 19) The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion In development for over 3 years, Oblivion is another leap forward in role-playing with its combination of freeform gameplay and cutting-edge graphics. Oblivion is the sequel to the best-selling, award-winning role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, named 2002 RPG and Game of the Year for both PC and Xbox. 20) The Last Remnant The Last Remnant is an upcoming console role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the Xbox 360. The game is being directed by Hiroshi Takai and will be the first Unreal Engine 3 game scheduled to be released by Square Enix. 21) The Precursors Developed by Deep Shadows and dubbed by IGN “a game which you should watch closely,” “The Precursors” will deliver the next level of quality and realism that will come to be expected for sci-fi RPGs. In the game, the players take on the role of a young fighter pilot who immediately becomes embroiled in a tumultuous war that will engulf the cosmos. Using an assortment of crushing weapons and perks, ranging from organic guns to buggy driving, the player and his three teammates will set out to uncover a secret of ancient races that threatens the balance of powers in the galaxy. 22) Theseis Theseis is an upcoming third person Xbox 360 adventure game, created by the Greek development group Track7 Games. The game is set in modern day Greece, and follows the story of Andronicus Kalogirou, as he searches for his missing, and presumed dead, stepfather. 23) Two Worlds: The Temptation Taking place shortly after the events portrayed in the first Two Worlds, The Temptation takes place in Eastern Antaloor, in the regions surrounding Oswaroh and the Drak’ar Desert. Featuring as much content as the original, Two Worlds: The Temptation will feature more intricate missions, improved voice-overs and animations, retooled horseback riding, completely revamped combat, and a new game engine that delivers visuals that have to be seen to be believed. 24) Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning War is everywhere in this next generation Realm vs. Realm (RvR) experience that integrates PvP and PvE combat into a single seamless experience. In a world dominated by force of arm and magic, players experience the epic nature of war and the glory of battle alongside thousands of other players. Every aspect of the game, including PvE content, is geared towards the greater war in some important way. 25) Zoids Assault Beasts of Steel. Diverse battlegrounds. An intense covert military campaign in the middle of a tense cold war. Advanced tactics including support fire and electromagnetic pulse systems. Tons of customization and upgrade options, including melee weapons, rockets, rifles, machine guns, shotguns, cannons, and more. Zoids Assault, a new and decidedly original strategy RPG take on the long-running Zoids series, brings all of the above and more to the Xbox 360® this August. ____________________________________________________________________ WHew !!! I know man, but most people thought that the majority of the RPGs would go to the consoles with the Japanese support i.e. PS3 and that M$ would only get shitty B-Grade stuff. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Age of Conan, Infinite Undiscovery, Fable2, Huxley, Mass Effect are X360 exclusives (although some are/will be also available on the PC, so lets say they are M$ exclusives). FOr those who dont wanna upgrade their PCs, the only way to get a suitable next-gen RPG fix is the X360.
