Persona 5

It does, but we need money for other things as well, not just gear. Increasing your personal stats (Kindness, Guts, Charm etc.) costs money. Also, I had to ensure that I always have a persona of the arcana which you are improving the Social Link of. In addition, I also had to buy medicines for healing, so SP is not wasted. All of this left me pretty much broke. I did not buy any gear and just used the ones that I found in the Palace, as and when I found it.

Yeah money has always been important in these games. I've been buying medicine to save SP as well. Hope I find an SP accessory soon.

I like the addition of firearms as well, not only do they look cool but some shadows have ranged weakness so that's nice.

Damn, 5 more hours at work to go... why can't time pass like it does in Persona?

Can we sell all the Treasures at the Airsoft shop? Is there chance of selling any components by mistake which might be required for crafting?

Part-time jobs are placed a lot of importance in the game for earning money but it seems we can earn a lot more by dungeon crawling.

The benefit of jobs is that they also raise your personal traits.

I have been selling everything that is marked as "can be sold for a good amount of money" or something like that. But yeah past games have had stuff that could be sold but was also needed for certain quests.

there seems to be a glut of good games when I started gaming again. Persona, ME, Horizon dawn and FFXV according to some. What do u suggest I pick up after ME?

I

Nier: Automata - my favorite game of the year.

But yeah you can't go wrong with the others either.

I enjoyed FFXV too but if it's a JRPG you're looking for Persona 5 is better.

Finished the first castle, damn that was long. Stealth really makes things interesting and helped me survive. There are so many mechanics here that you need to invest time in to get everything right. Barely made it in the first castle.

Played for about 28 hours and secured infiltration in the second palace..Man this game oozes style and the palaces are soo good, especially this second one.

The voice actors are really good too..

Also heard that Altus has restricted uploading/streaming for game content from 7/7 in game time? Why is that? They want to avoid major game spoilers?

But the Japanese version was out already long back so not sure if that's the reason though.

Woah the second palace is amazing. Much better than the first one and actually makes you feel like a real robber as shown in movies. It's damn fun.

@TouchyFever: From what I heard the streaming order came from Atlus/Sega Japan (The main branch), so not much Atlus USA can do about it. Anyway, the spoiler reasoning does make sense. Even though released before, the game was only in Japanese. Not much of a chance people will be watching streams of a highly character and story driven game in a language they don't understand. And it's a pain for a mere streamer to translate that humongous text.

Now that the game is available in English, they want to ensure that people are not spoiled on the main story parts. They do allow streaming up to 7/7 for promotion purposes. They just don't want people to see the full game in Youtube and not buy it/buy it on sale later. After all, Persona is a very niche series, unlike say Mass Effect or Dragon Age. They might be aiming to keep whatever customers they can get.

All I can say is if someone is watching a stream or video that person is prepared for the spoilers and knows what he's getting into. So no point in restricting it.

In this day and age of internet I think it's a dumb move from them if that was there main intention.

Anyways love the post battle music and victory lap..

Almost 30 hours played.... that's insane! The game has it's hooks in me so bad right now. This is probably my favorite Persona game so far. The pacing is so good and the minor tweaks they've made to the core formula add so much to game without making it lose it's identity. A few more impressions...

Dungeons - Easily the highlight of this game! It's an area where the past games have struggled with but they've knocked it out of the park this time. I'm on the third main dungeon and so far they've all been memorable. Always a joy to explore and conquer. Boss fights have been great too.

Characters - I was worried that this game may not top my favorites from P4 but it almost does. I really like the main characters as well as the supporting ones. Really getting attached to some of them.

Combat - One word comes to mind - slick! Unlike many JRPGs I don't resent fighting at all and am constantly looking forward to it. My only complaint is that the victory screen (though super stylish) is too long. You can skip the button presses by holding triangle but that doesn't necessarily make it faster.

Story - So far, extremely engaging. Each "section" so to speak has been great and I really like how it's paced. The previous games had a few dull moments between the good stuff but P5 has been consistently engaging.

World - Definitely more areas to explore compared to the past games and everything feels streamlined. Don't want to spend time walking? Just fast travel to the location.

Music - Pretty good and some tunes are already stuck in my head. However there are no catchy J-pop songs like "Your Affection" or "Heartbeat, Heartbreak", or at least I haven't heard them yet. The few vocal tracks aren't as memorable. However that might change. The battle themes are pretty awesome though, especially the rocking mini-boss encounter music.

On to some spoiler talk.. minor hints as to what I am going to talk about... remember I am up to the third dungeon and in late June.

Sojiro

Love how he is warming up to the MC despite acting cold earlier and the scene with the group going to the cafe was a nice moment.

Morgana

I normally don't like mascot characters in Japanese games but he's definitely an exception. Something about the voice acting and overall characterization make him so endearing!

Kawakami

Did not expect the whole "maid" thing at all. I kinda feel sorry for her. Really hope I am able to help her by the end. I really did not expect the whole flyer thing to end up like that though.

Second palace

Wow! That was so good. Great level design and it felt awesome breaking in and staging the heist. Again, the game has seriously blown me away with these sections/

Makoto

Probably the most badass Persona awakening scene ever! The outfit, the motorbike, the attitude! On top of that she's the smartest of the bunch. I think I've found my favorite girl in the game. Sorry Yukiko...

Finished the third dungeon and in mid July now. The story really pulls you in and will push one to do "one more day". Dungeons are awesome and are my favorite ones in P series. Music is really good and the track "Behind the Mask" is in my head every single moment(crap!).

If this game continues to be as engaging and fantastic like it is now, this is my favorite game this year. Yakuza and Horizon has to take the backseat :P yet to play automata though.

I didn't know you could hold down triangle to skip it, was pressing X all this while :|

Also,

Is making coffee the only way to score some fav points with Sojiro?

Yeah as far as I know spending time with him while he has the card icon on his head is the only way to advance (same goes for others as well actually). Some of the confidants rank up automatically after some story events though. I've been dividing my time between all of them equally for now. Highest rank is the doctor right now.

EDIT: ignore the above, I believe there's a special prerequisite to rank him further which we probably haven't reached yet.

I'm almost at the end of the third palace and damn it's even better than the last one. It's a good idea to do the palaces in one go right at the start, gives you many free days until the deadline. It's hard to pull away from the game while you're playing. These games have so much to do but somehow don't feel overbearing at all, definitely not like a western game and their bloated quest logs and maps filled with icons.

I pitied Kamoshida after he was defeated. He (Both Shadow and real versions) kinda looked pathetic and sad after that. The VA did a really stupendous job of conveying the emotions of that character. You kinda feel sorry for him later.

Yeah the VA during that part was very good.

I did pity him a tiny bit, then I remembered the stuff he did. It was all unforgivable. They did a great job with Madarame as well, seeing him break down on live TV with people making fun of him was sad too. I wonder how the next one will go considering that particular person has no redeeming qualities.

Is it just me or is the game more difficult at hard difficulty than p4g?

It is. Normal shadows can blindside you and one wrong move can lead to a wipe.

The first boss is easier than the one in P4 though. I remember I had to go back and grind a specific Persona to do that fight comfortably.

I haven't finished the first dungeon yet. But normal shadows are a lot more difficult. Game is a lot more darker as well as far as themes are concerned. I keep thinking about the game. So good..
