Yeah , I mean it released last year in Japan; For western countries it released this year. Doesn’t that count? Also did persona 5 even made it to GOTY nominees back then?

Yes the original Persona 5 made it to Game of the Year 2017 nominations. On any other year, it would mostly have won it too. But 2017 was a really crazy year. For reference, these were the nominees of GOTY 2017 -

1) Persona 5

2) Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

3) Super Mario Odyssey

4) Horizon: Zero Dawn

5) Player Unknown: Battlegrounds

And that year's award went to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

2017 was one year where competition was too tough and truly worth it. Though, to me personally, out of that entire list Persona 5 was my favorite and I would have loved it to win.

Yep, BotW is a truly remarkable game.  One of the best open world.

Horizon and Mario were also great games but comparing it with BotW or Persona 5. It is nowhere to be found close to them. Those two games are exceptionally on another level. HZD open world is boring whereas BotW sets the benchmark and standard very high just like RDR2/GTA.

P5 being a linear complete story based game; it’s one of the finest. I wonder how much time it would have taken to come up with such creativity. The things in the game are simple but the way they have executed it; is just beyond my words. Despite of already playing P5. Now whenever I start P5R; I just keep on playing  for hours and only quit when I start feeling tired and go to bed. I don’t think I have played game like this in years.

Have to disagree with Mario. Persona 5 was the best, true and Horizon was nowhere - also true. But to me SMO would have been 2nd on that list (Above Zelda). SMO had an extremely innovative gameplay. If you played it - it would literally bring back the absolute joys of playing video games back. Extremely creative and fun levels and extremely creative and fun enemies and bosses. It was an absolute joy.

My list would have been -

1) Persona 5

2) Super Mario Odyssey

3) Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

4) Horizon: Zero Dawn

5) Player Unknown: Battlegrounds

This is just my opinion ofc. But nonetheless, it was an extremely tough year and all were great games. I can see how Zelda won though - it had an extreme appeal. And if Zelda was not there that year, then PUBG would have won - since that had the 2nd best public appeal that year.

What happens if you enter in special relationship to multiple confidants? Does that have any affect over anything?

You get in-game trophy/award for entering into romantic relationships with all female confidants or friend zoning each and every one. There are no rewards for being in a relationship with only 1 or 2 (Persona 5 Royal). If you are in a relationship with multiple people, you will have to select 1 person with whom you will spend Valentine's Day (Where girls will give chocolates to guys) and 1 person with whom you will spend White Day (Japan's Reverse Valentine's Day where guys will give chocolates to girls). You will also have a very fun scene at that point. These "Chocolates" are NG+ items that give bonus to NG+. There are some other permutations in P5R as well, just experience it.

Other than that, the people with whom you romanced will react to you differently than the ones you befriended, in private scenes (S Links, Spending Days with them etc), interaction is the same in the major story scenes. Even if you cheat, you are forgiven quickly enough. There are some other permutation/combinations as well (friendship gifts) etc. It's a bit complex. At the very end of the game, when you say goodbye, people who you enter into special relationships will also react differently than those you friend-zoned (Even if you cheat - as I said you are forgiven soon enough). Just play how you want/google to understand the full effects.

Now if you don't complete someone's Confidant altogether - that's a different case. AFAIK, they don't appear support you, don't appear in the endings etc. Game takes a lot of different stuff into account.

In the base game, that specific confidant ranks up automatically; don't need to do anything. You don't need to do anything special. For the true ending you only need to choose the correct dialogue towards the end and its pretty obvious which choice is correct to get the true ending.

yeah but In P5R it seems it matter. Don’t look it up if you haven’t  played Royal yet. That contains a spoiler.

I read somewhere to get true ending you need to achieve Some criteria. I am wondering What happens if I don’t rank up

  Reveal hidden contents

with Akechi to level8 before 18Nov

 How does this affect in-game?

These are the requirements to even unlock the 3rd Semester. If you don't do this, you will miss out on 20+ hours of new content in Royal as the game will simply track you to the base game and finish off where the base game ended

Spoiler

1) Reach Maruki (Counsellor) Arcana Confidant Link to Level 9 before Nov. 17 (Rank 10 is automatic)

These are the requirements to unlock the True Ending of the 3rd Semester

Spoiler

1) Reach Maruki (Counsellor Arcana) Confidant Link to Level 9 before Nov. 17 (Rank 10 is automatic provided you reach Rank 9 before said date)

2) Reach Goro Akechi (Justice Arcana) Confidant to Level 8 before Nov. 18 (You can rank up to Level 6 freely; Level 7 and 8 are available only from Nov.2 - Nov. 18) (Rank 9 and 10 are automatic, provided you reached Rank 8 before said date)

3) Reach Kasumi (Faith Arcana) Confidant to Rank 5. This can be done freely, but all ranks after Rank 5 are locked till the 3rd Semester

You can freely look up the above Spoiler Tag. I've not posted any spoilers at all, just the requirements - all of which you probably know by now. The Spoiler Tag is only for those who have not played Royal at all.

Anyway, Royal also has 3 new Endings (3rd Semester Good Ending, 3rd Semester Bad Ending and 3rd Semester TRUE Ending - this is the canon ending of the story which you should try to get). So long as you unlock the 3rd Semester itself, you still have the choice of the remaining 2 endings, if you f**ed up the other requirements to unlock the true ending. If you fulfill all the conditions of the true ending, then you have the choice of all 3 3rd semester endings and can freely choose which 3rd semester ending you want.

Do note that the base game endings are different from the 3rd Semester Endings, and unlocking the 3rd Semester will lock you out of the base game endings. Overall, in Persona 5 Royal, you can achieve 6 endings -

1) Persona 5 Base True Ending - Don't unlock 3rd Sem, but fulfill all requirements for base game true ending

2) Persona 5 Base Bad Ending/s - You know how to get this/Spoiler to say here

3) Persona5 Base Good Ending - Again you know how to get this/Spoiler to say here

4) Persona 5 Royal (3rd Semester) True Ending - See requirement above

5) Persona 5 Royal (3rd Semester) Bad Ending - Depends on Your Choices + Whether you unloked 3 sem and fulfilled True Ending Criteria

6) Persona 5 Royal (3rd Semester) Good Ending - Depends on Your Choices + Whether you unloked 3 sem and fulfilled True Ending Criteria

I almost purchased the base game (P5) a year back but somehow delayed it and then I had a lot of backlog to clear. But now P5R has peaked my interest and I think I might just bite the bullet. Going to go in fresh, have never played a single JRPG before. I hope I am pleasantly surprised because I am still a little skeptical.

Tried to search and only found the steel book version online. Was there ever a standard edition which was cheaper ?

The steel book is priced at around 3.2 k on Amazon which is not that bad considering it is a steel book but just checking if I am missing something ?

Very hard to find a preowned copy, was the physical copy not easily available in India ?

@adity @GameAnalyzer maybe you guys can help because I think you two have recently played the game.

Only steelbooks of P5R released here( and even worldwide iirc ).

P5R Digital can be bought off PSN for 2.6k on sales, probably will go down even further on black friday sale.

You should be able to reach Level 8 pretty easily. AFAIK, you can only send calling card of Palace 6 at the very end, and he should be available frequently between Nov 2 - Nov 18 I think. You're only behind by 1 rank, so you might just have to dedicate 1 extra day (evening) to him. Oh and Akechi Rank 7 requires 4 Knowledge, so hope you have that. If it's not possible, you might just have to reload an earlier save. You do keep frequent saves right? There's a reason Atlus provides around 16 save slots.
