3 days go my PS3 60GB (NTSC US) which I bought from a seller on EBAY USA with 100% feedback arrived.Looks like I made a big mistake.

The system sometimes fails to boot, and when it does, it usually freezes. However, it never freezes while playing games.I tried formatting the hard disk, restoring factory settings, etc but nothing seems to work.I tried hard resetting but that's not happening at all.To make things worse, I get a small shock when I touch the metalic edges on the system.Esp the part around the BD drive.

Helpppppppp!!!!

if its still under warranty then make someone send it back to the u.s for repair if nothin seems to work

and... dont forget to give the seller negative feedback to warn other ppl from purchasing stuff from him

Your best bet is Firmware update if that doesnt fix the issue nothing will...

Regarding electric shock it can be that your socket is not properlyy wired...

I had the same issue earlier but my electrician fixed it....

Dude this may have nothing to do with ur Ps3, it may be a simple matter incorrect earthing, my guess is ur power socket lacks proper earthing, as a result, you might be having these issues, pls ask ur electrician to take a look, and ask him to do proper grounding. till then I suggest u dont use ur PS3, and unplug it..as this may cause damage to the hardware.

Good guess. I was about to post a similar reply.

This seems to be the most likely cause, altho its strange that it doesnt happen during games.

hehe i got shock from 360 once when trying to insert a game disk but that was static shock and not due to earthing problem. do u play game while sitting on a plastic chair cos that may induce static electric charge on ur body that gives u shock when u touch ps3. if that is the case then u ll also get shock when u touch some other metallic thing like a plate or sth. just a guess. but i guess the big j and MT's opinion is right

Yup.

As Harsahil said. Even I get a shock from my PS3 when I get up from a plastic chair. When I sit on a cushioned chair with non-plastic body, I don't get any shocks.

So, the conclusion is, Plastic is shocking.
