I'm sure dude  got nowhere else left to try it out.Its weird, coz when it first arrived I played a few demos all night long. And now its giving up on me :D

If you are in Mumbai, there's a chap at Musafir Khana who's pretty much the local expert in console repairs. It may be worth your while to let him have a look at it.

Yeah I guess I'll have to do that. When is the next GI Bangalore meet??

sometime later in this month....

try switching on the PS3 without the HDD see what happens....if you are not sure how to remove HDD dont try...

I have a feeling the issue is due to bad sectors in HDD.

Hey Athek, I tried removing the HDD but couldn't find the right screwdriver so the blue screw got screwed, you know what I mean, and now its not possible to unscrew the blue screw.I had the same feeling about bad sectors. Moreover, the system powers on and boots perfectly when I've allowed it to cool for sometime. And after 15-20 mins it freezes.I've tried a full format of the hard disk but it freezes before the format is complete :threatenlumber: I'm doomed.Called Sony they said they can't help coz its not an Indian system.Do your know anybody in Bangalore who fixes consoles?I see that you too have a US version, are you using some kind of step down transformer or coverter etc?

No i am not using any convertors your issue is a typical example of bad sectors dude.

same thing happens with PC too.

Advise you to take it to some local electrical and get the screw removed and then try...

if it runs smooth throw the HDD get a new one for 3k from computerwarehouse will cost you 3k and you are set to go.

^^^chill.....they pulling your leg about ur comment dude...

Plastic some times produce static electricity..under some condn....but they dont conduct electricity...then it would have been f**ked up ..dont u think..:nerves:...

the screw driver handles we use..they are after all PLASTIC...

well i guess some of u guys might remember that old school class of Glass rod being rubbed with Silk cloth produce a + charge and some other material rod(i dont remember the material name, sorry) rubbed with Flannel cloth produces - charge. and when a +vely or -vely charged object is brought near a conducting surface e.g. in this case the metallic body of PS3 especially near Blu-Ray drive it may induce opposite charge on it and when two opposite charges meet, boom u have current flowing and get electric shock. it is possible in theory and i ve experienced it in practical. :( and i finished my boards in 2000...

i know everything i said might be entirely wrong according to Physics, but this is my assumption only. not to be taken very seriously. but let me know if someone agrees on it or tell me where i am wrong

The material is ebony. By the way, you dont need two opposite charges to meet for current to flow. If you give a path for the charges on the glass rod to flow (for example you touch it while being grounded) then youll get a shock. So you're partly correct.
